Fun challenges this time, well done for not just dismissing some of these! For a nice tradition to go and see, make a note to go to Ottery St Mary in the UK on the 5th of November. We have a tradition of setting tar coated barrels on fire, picking them up and running through huge crowds with them. The size of the barrels increases through the day and at midnight, there is usually a 125kg barrel. And yes, one person will be carrying that on their back. It's one of the craziest traditions I know of and it's from my home town! :D

Love the Swedish traditions. We have one in New Zealand called crate day. It’s held on the first Saturday of December in NZ, which is during summer so it’s really nice and sunny. The day consists of drinking a crate of twelve 745 ml beer bottles from 12pm until 12am the next day. Lots of BBQ’s, swimming, and music.

You should see Punxsutawney Phil come out of his hole on Groundhog Day (Feb. 2) in Pennsylvania, U.S. The tradition says if Phil sees his shadow when he comes out of his hole, the next six weeks will bring wintery weather. If Phil doesn't see his shadow, it means an early spring. I'm a journalist at the local newspaper there, too. I could write an article about your visit for the Punxsutawney area and the rest of Indiana County, Pennsylvania ;)

In the USA (mostly Pennsylvania) we wait for a prediction from a groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil to find out when spring will come. According to the tradition, if Phil sees his shadow and returns to his hole, he has predicted six more weeks of winter-like weather. If Phil does not see his shadow, he has predicted an early spring. The town of Punxsutawney is about an hour and a half drive from Pittsburgh, PA and his next prediction is on February 2nd with celebrations kicking off in preparation for his prediction which usually happens around 7:30 am If you make the trip, I live in Pittsburgh and gotchu w/ a ride ❤‍🔥

There is an Austrian / Alps-Region tradition which is called "Krampus Lauf". Every year around the dezember sixth, people dress up in beastlike costumes, a heavy bell around their waste and a rod made out of twigs. Then, they roam through the streets and scaring bystanders as well as hitting them with their rod. The exact place and time these "runs" occur is easy to find out since its an official Event

Very Local Dutch/Veens tradition: "Lampegietersavond" is a traditional party which is celebrated on the 2nd monday in September in parts of the provinces of Utrecht and Gelderland (participating villages/cities: Veenendaal, Renswoude, Woudenberg, Scherpenzeel and Ederveen). Children walk through the streets all dressed up with a paper lantern (lampion). After the walk cinnamon biscuits and hot chocolate milk will be consumed. In Veenendaal it is celebrated on the monday nearest to the 17th of September. The party originated in Veenendaal. Here the people used to dig up a lot of peat (Veen). That's also how the city originated. The city (Veenendaal) used to be partly on the province of both Utrecht and Gelderland creating a lot of drama (unique thing). After the harvesting of peat, the locals started making money on wool and tabacco. Huge factories took over the city in the 19th century. In those times electrical lights were not around yet and around the 17th of September it became too dark to work. Then they would use gaslanterns to illuminate the surroundings. These gaslanterns are symbolic for the paper lanterns used today during the march. The workers started celebrating this event with their children and thus local songs started to be sung aswell: "Het is vanavund lampelietjusavund, falderalderiere, falderalderare. 'k Heb van mun va een lampion gekregen, falderalderalderaldera..." To finish this off: TYC: Sing (partly) this song "Erika" (you'll know when you have the right one :D)

In Barcelona on April 23 they celebrate Dia de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day), which is combined with International Literature Day. It's essentially Catalan Valentines Day. The legend is that there was a dragon terrorizing a village and eating the people and that they were going to have to sacrifice the princess to get him to stop. Sant Jordi went to go save the princess and killed the dragon with his lance. From the dragon's blood there grew a single rose. Now on April 23 all of Barcelona (and Catalunya) fills with book and rose stands. Tradition is that the man gives the woman a rose and the woman gives the man a book, but this can be reversed too. Look up Casa Batlló, the building designed by Gaudí and you'll see the tower is the lance, the roof is the dragon's back, and the balconies are dragon skulls. They fill the balconies with roses on Dia de Sant Jordi.

However, from what I've seen, burning straw goats and people screaming hellish screams in mass in the middle of the night is pretty strange, I love it.
