If y'all get a bunch of bottles from unnamed bastards, you should put it on a shelf of its own and call it "the shelf of the unknown bastard". as a salute for those who serve in the dark.

I know I'm late to the game on this one, but... I'm SO glad you like J Henry. They're just down the road from me, and they're a great (and growing!) distillery. A note on the red corn (I learned this on a tour): The Henry family used to grow the red corn on their farm, but stopped a long time ago. When J Henry decided to retire from growing (normal) corn and start making bourbon, he went to the University of Wisconsin (Madison) seed bank and asked for kernels to plant. They gave him all that they had, with the stipulation that he refill the seed bank if they grew. They did, and he did.

I just wanted to say I absolutely love your guys’ toast at the end of your videos. A couple of my friends and I have actually borrowed it a time or two. As such, in the spirit of sharing, here is a toast a lifelong friend of mine came up with a little while back for when we meet up for drinks. Feel free to use it if you wish. “Here’s to the past, the present, and the future; May we drink to celebrate the events of the past; May we enjoy what is in front of us at present; And when the glass is empty, may it be only to seek a new adventure. “

Took a tour of Old Line Spirits distillery today. Tried all their products except the peated single malt. Unfortunately they're currently out of that one, but they said they have more coming. I picked up a bottle of their cask strength. Personally I like it. I grabbed an extra one to donate. I'll drop it off on the 25th.

i know this is old video, but i wanted to tell Danial he is spot on with the J henry and sons Bourbon. a few other side notes the tribe may want to know; red heirloom corn 60%corn 14%wheat 14%rye and malted barley for the rest. always aged 5 years in an old cattle barn turned into a rick-house that is not temp controlled. all grains besides the barley malt is grown on the 2,000+ acre farm and produce 100 barrels a year.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think Joe Henry finds Wisconsin white oak trees, and gets them processed into his own barrels because he doesn't trust anyone else to do it. If this guy is anything, he's PATIENT, and it shows. He's not in a hurry to make money back, and it shows in a damn fine whiskey.

Hi Peter Schumacher. Actually, Joe started off using some Brown & Forman, then later McGinnis barrels. The most recent bourbon has been laid down in ISC.

Hey this may be a dumb question but what types of ingredients can you toast, or smoke if that’s a thing? And could keeping your ingredients in the barrels before you age your whisk(e)y change the flavors?
@DZone9996 жыл бұрын
Hi guys, love your channel! As a burgeoning collector, there's one question that always crosses my mind when I see Daniel go pick bottles from the vault: how do you sort the whiskies in your collection? You always seem to know where everything is even with hundreds of bottles!

I remember a long time ago you mentioned 43% as a curious strength for whisky. My Mum works in the export department for Glenfarclas and she told me that it is because certain countries have laws where alcoholic spirits have to be 43% such as South Africa. A mystery solved I think!

I went out and bought Old Line after this video. I feel like it is the opposite side of the spectrum of American whiskey from Michter's. Michters turns down the barrel/ oak to highlight the sweeter flavors of corn mash and Old Line is aged in small barrels adding to me (a scotch guy) super oaky flavors on a malt whiskey. I did mix them and it turned into a good but not unique bourbon.
@StarScream07226 жыл бұрын
FYI. I have seen it in Baltimore from 45-50 They do make a cask strength bottle at 60%. ABV

Hey Rex. Looking forward to seeing your new haircut. Daniel... When might you be advancing to Whisky Sommelier Level 4? I have been watching for nearly a year. OK, finally popping my commenting cherry after several weeks of catching up on your videos. Usually I couldn't be bothered to actually contribute anything, BUT I heard that Mezcal is your side piece when you're not having whisky. Have you tried the new distillery in Dripping Springs - Desert Door - that Sotol is an earthy, smokey (but not smoked) palate wrecker that will give you instant cigar mouth - definitely check it out! Also, question for you - for someone who loves Islay whisky, any Mezcal recommendations that are heavy on smoke and depth?

I've found myself sitting in my bed in the late nights after a hard day at work, watching over your videos religiously. while I enjoy them thoroughly, I've noticed the titles representing the bottle to be "reviewed" in the video, really is just a formal click bait which represents but a single second in the video where us, the audience, may actually confuse these lovely videos with a review. whereas the reality is, you may as well start naming each video with a symbol of an ancient tribe, as we all now know better and only tune in to see some heavy (but minimal) ball busting and some interrupted history lessons, followed by 5 different reviews completely side tracked from the inital whisky. worst review channel I've seen. 10 out of 10
