Pressing block is a type of checking block, I really liked that. We should probably emphasize the fact that it is a special type of checking block, where gravity is our ally and we should take full advantage of this. We do not press with the wrists nor the elbows nor the shoulders... we put whole body weight behind the block. Keeping the attack from a 45 degree angle is another bonus. Nowadays some position the attacker straight ahead and in order for the block to make sense they distance the elbow from the body, therefore eliminating the previous principle, loosing the advantage of whole body weight against the attack. Still, your own move has a slightly increased distance between torso and elbow...

Although body weight is an important factor, we cannot put our whole body weight into the block unless we lean right over the block. For safety reasons your body should remain upright and not lean forward and exposed the head to the opponent. The body weight only becomes effective if the arms are tense at the moment of impact. This is what I meant when I said 'press'. A better phrase would be 'keep arms and wrist tense'. The pressing is experienced when the attackers limb hits the blocking tool and then the body weight is supporting the block. Of course, as you suggest, the body weight has less effect the further away the blocking tool is from the body. But the blocking tool should not be too close, otherwise the attack hits the target as you block.
