Thank you for these videos, Sir. There aren't a lot of good demonstrations on ITF forms on the web, but your breakdown of each movement, along with the multiple camera angles makes your videos the best resource on the web right now.

Any chance of getting a practical application for these Patterns? I mean how is the "w" block six times applicable? other than looking...interesting?
@DonatoNardizzi
@DonatoNardizzi 4 жыл бұрын
Each of the movements in the patterns have been covered in other lessons where I show the practical application of the movement. W-Shape Block is covered in lesson #52 of my TKD Lesson playlist. The W-Shape Block is not very practical against a single opponent compared to other alternatives. It is better suited for blocking two attackers. However, it is included in Toi-Gye Tul as an exercise for building muscles in the abdomen and it is done in stamping motion to help accentuate the hip jerk. So it more useful as training exercise. That is why it is repeated 6 times in the pattern. Not all movements in patterns serve the purpose of practical fighting techniques. Some are included for aesthetic reasons as well. Perhaps general Choi included this movement for aesthetic reasons as well.

I’m a beginner and have watched all your patterns which are very easy to follow, thank you. I wonder if you could avoid adding music to your videos please? It’s very distracting, especially because I repeat your video multiple times during my training. It’s also better without music because I would be able to hear your breathing pattern too. Ta !

Sir..in relation to the x fist pressing block in x stance in Toi-Gye..is the block executed a short time after landing in x stance rather than at the time of landing.to give you time to assess which block to use depending on what the attacker has chosen to do? We are blocking something like a front snap kick I think in the pattern but in real life you would not know that when you initiate your jump towards the potential attacker. So I wonder what scenario might General Choi have envisaged? Thank you.
@DonatoNardizzi
@DonatoNardizzi 5 жыл бұрын
Good question. You block slightly after your feet land and at the same time as you finish the X-Stance (when the knees have finished bending). In a real situation the block can finish before the kick arrives because all pressing blocks are like checking blocks. When you shield the low section it is called a Pressing Block. When you shield the middle and high section it is called a Checking Block.

@@DonatoNardizzi Thank you Sir. May I ask you about the real life application? I have read in one of Mr Stuart Anslow's books that the original application (and that of its karate predecessor) was to block a rifle and /or bayonetted rifle..in that the defender jumps high and lands on the end of the rifle with his jump, pushing the tip of the rifle downwards, while using his hands to block the weapon closer to the attacker. When we perform it in the pattern it feels a bit unrealistic to me as it seems the attacker almost has to be in position and stay there while the defender executes the jump and block. Thank you again.

@@JH-lc9st The applications of ITF Taekwon-Do techniques are given in the Taekwon-Do encyclopedia which says the X-Fist is used to block the tibia of the attacking foot aimed at the defender's lower abdomen.

sir, you say the terminologies in English like (jumping X stance) the same as me, while some says the techniques should be said in Korean. which one is correct nowadays in the world?
@DonatoNardizzi
@DonatoNardizzi Жыл бұрын
Both English and Korean are valid terminologies since the TKD Encyclopedia is available in both these languages. It is important to use the exact terminology as in the encyclopedia. Many instructors incorrectly make up their own terminology. For example, they may say Axe Kick instead of Pick-Shaped kick. You mentioned Jumping X-Stance. In my video I say X-Stance but there is no such thing as a jumping X-Stance. You can jump and form an X-Stance, as in the pattern.

I learn Tae Kwon do from an Engineer KIM EANG, in NAM KWANG CONSTRUCTION AND ENGENEERING that was 1978 we were together in bunker every night we shared styles because I learned from Great Grandfather Garote (nowadays known as Kali or Arnis) and Kuntao Silat before it known as Kuntawan Silatan. He shared to me those pattern from Chong gie to Khe Bek but as I follow your vlogs or video there is a slight difference in movements and approach and its explanation I puzzled which is proper and correct. Is it new approach?, a standard to be followed? by an Association or it depends on the school. As he reveal to me he was a North Korean a former soldier defected to South South Korea, please guide me for proper pattern. I am a Filipino from Southern Mindanao need your comment regarding the subject or matter for enlightenment.
