For the sake of my deskspace and my sanity, I narrowed all the six colors into regualr triads. Usually i did 1 3 5. 1 being darkest 5 being the second lightest. A few exceptions to the rule. I kep most of the greys and warm greys on my desk and there were 1 or 2 triads where i might go 2 4 6 instead but we will see. I was just getting overwhelmed seeing all those paints.

P3 did the Triad system really well. I am glad to see another paint line trying to follow that path. Expert painters don't normally rely on triad systems, as they tend to mix as they go to get the shade up or down they need along the way.

Looking at the lineup of all triads in the Fanatic line made me worried about how good of a contrast they'll be able to achieve, since none of the swatches seem to go into really dark shades, and I was especially worried about the Cool Reds - so I'm really happy you showed off this triad in particular - but to my surprise, they do look fine, although not as good as the Vivid Blues from your previous SM Librarian video; I feel like a Burnt Umber oil wash might be warranted here to punch up the shadows. The bright shades look really nice though, the way Dragon Red covered pure black primer on the cape was beautiful. Would love to see a video on the Ochres & Tans, Desaturated Cool Greens, or Olive Greens, since these are the few remaining triads that I'm particularly wary of by looking at the posters. Great job painting either way!

2 questions. Do you have a discord and when it comes to speedpaint, for painting small infantry like Tau Fire Warriors. Would you paint the whole thing Red for instance then cover the cloth parts with a black for speed purposes or ust black in Red armor then black coth? Trying to come up with the best process. Love the work you do btw

Sometimes you need to bend the rules a bit in painting. The red triad painting method is a good choice for the cape. I would struggle a bit to start from dark to light colours on capes. Nice demostration on the new Army Painter paints! 👍

I'm really on the fence with these. No flgs near me so I'd have to order a set and if I'm going to order, I might as well order the complete set...right?
@trollpaintingminis449611 ай бұрын
Not necessarily because you could get the mega set to start with and then the most wanted set which is all colors that aren't in the mega set
@trollpaintingminis449611 ай бұрын
Then that would give you a good starting point and you could pick up additional colors here and there for specific projects
@Bakecrusto11 ай бұрын
There's a starter set if you just want to try it out (11 paints), mega set if you want to try it out more (50 paints; I think it contains the entire starter set in it plus 39 more), and then a "most wanted" set, meant to supplement the mega set (22 paints), since it specifically contains paints not present in the mega set. The problem with these though is that even with Mega+Most Wanted sets, you'll only have 72 paints out of 216, and I think not a single full 6-paint flexible triad, instead getting ~3 paints per triad - so if it's the triad system you want to really try out, you might have to either order on a per-paint basis, or just get the complete set.

Finished product looks good as always Don. You got a mini there that is exactly what I hate to paint.. way too much detail and kind of a pain to get looking right. Think i will be picking up some triads but not the full set of these warcolors.

Hate is such a strong word bro. But agree! minis like this make me procrastinate a bit. 😅
@howardcoates698511 ай бұрын
yes. I should say that I avoid overly detailed items like that one... they look great when done well... but without very good color co-ordination they end up looking .. messy. Not really what I focus on.

Good job. I would be really interested in seeing how the very bright non-pastel greens cover (I think one is named rainforest or something like that). These were atrocious in the old warpaints and tend to be pretty transparent in all paint lines I know.
@DonSuratos11 ай бұрын
The Yellow Greens? Ohhh, my fave color to paint. Trying them out soon. Even oil paints of this color are transparent actually. It’s the nature of the pigments used I think. 😊
@nikotillmann976411 ай бұрын
@@DonSuratos yes, exactly, it seems.to be a property of the pigments involved. Which would make it so interesting to me, because this would really show how good opacity really is in this new fanatics line.

@@DonSuratosya would really help beginners here to see how you mix the color, to create those "triad colors" that are missing from the Mega set. Example Cool Red : In the mega set, only Basilisk Red , Wyvern Fury, Pure Red are present. Vivid blue : only Imperial Navy, Crystal Blue, Bright Sapphire Deep Green : Angel green and Greenskin Strong pale blue : only Ultramarine blue
@Abraleo11 ай бұрын
Out of curiosity, is "triad" the official name of the paint line or is it used just to name it? I'm asking because "triad" usually indicates 3 and I see every color has 6 colors, which is really nice they are all inside the same hue 😍
@Xav1ez11 ай бұрын
Army painter calls them flexible triads, 6 paints in the same hue so you get the flexibility of choosing you base, mid and high from the three. Basically it's at least 4 triads in one flexible triad, more if you skip over some levels for more contrast between the layers.
