Great video, but you could of taken more footage of other areas of Doncaster like the famous St leger racecourse, the dome, the new hotel built along side of the racecourse too. Also The wool market entertainment area, the Yorkshire Wildlife park, the airport, lakeside, eco power football stadium, the new cinema and the old grand lady of the mansion House

Thanks, great film. I lived in Donnie back in 1999-2002, a lot of improvements in the town and I love the Danum Library /Museum /Gallery. Hope the locals get an uplift with jobs etc., very friendly people, affordable housing but not enough job opportunities at the time. Nice to see the positives. Been back in London for years, and you don't get the same friendliness here. Lots of housing problems, expensive to Rent and crime - but it's got a huge population so can't compare. I still have loyalty to Donnie, don't like people always saying it's a dump. At least you can breathe and get out to the countryside quick.

Thank you for sharing your view! You're right, Donnie and places like this, are so different from London. I live in Peterborough, and always feel tired from London when I go there. So, Doncaster and many other comparatively small cities are just like a breath of fresh air 🙂

Stabbed in Doncaster? London is the worst for it! I've lived in both so I'm being honest!
@biddylisduff Жыл бұрын
I met a few people in London who left Donnie to make money in London, I agree that the prospects for work haven't been great, especially since the Pit closures. I knew a few people who grew up in Pit villages and saw for myself the mayhem that caused - Denaby, Armthorpe especially. Some returned to live in Donnie, partly to be near family but they had the advantage of a bit of money behind them earned in London. I found it sad how many youngsters struggled to get a decent job, and certain areas were unbelievably run-down with closed shops and the Miners Welfare Clubs/ family facilities collapsing with no income. Yes there was a lot of crime in certain parts, burglaries were worrying when I lived near the Town Centre. But the contrast in the friendly people was what I appreciated compared to London - I had neighbours who still left the door unlocked so you could knock and walk in for a cuppa. They laughed at me for having doors locked, "can tell you're from London"! I really missed the "Balby Mafia" when I moved back to London - that's what we jokingly called ourselves - cos we looked out for each other! People said "Ooh, it's rough in Balby" - compared to East London? Haha! I could rent a 3-bed house with a garden for the price of a bedsit in London, my mate still in same street, Victorian Railway workers' houses, built to last. Shame Doncaster hasn't got back on track with better prospects.
