animatic woooo
it's been a while i missed drawing you epic odysseus haha. Circe's eyes are different from my other god designs because her versions in the myths vary a little! ranging from powerful witch to nymph to goddess. but she is related to Helios, hence the yellow eyes :D

Alright enough simping, and time to geek about details like when Odysseus says he ate molly how quick Circe went from confident to defensive. Curling into herself and back away even when she doubts he actually did, but couldn't take the risk. Odysseus trying to be polite and diplomatic, testing the waters on whether or not he can reason his way out. When she answers with a threat, he knew his answer and replied in kind. How right until after getting the answer to his question of "Did you do something to them?" he had a polite smile and kept his hand away from his weapon, trying to look as nonthreatening as possible. Then, boom, his polite and diplomatic smile disappears and his hand starts resting at the pummel of his sword as her tone confirms well enough her intentions to him. Watch them keep eye contact with each other. Only losing it when Odysseus had to look back as he stumbles back into the table. And of course, gotta love our dramatic and smug little shit, Odysseus, trying to make himself look cool when he was 'recounting' how he got the Molly. Then, Circe coldly going "Hermes gave it to you, didn't he?" lmao

Actually, little additional detail, she seems to actually retreat/recoil to a very subtle degree when shes "calling him out" about the moly flower. Yes, she subsequently walks back up to taunt him after that, but it seems like shes actually a bit afraid in that moment too. Like asking herself nervously, "What if he really does have it?" without admitting anything. This whole thing is so cool!

OH MY GODDD this is amazing!! I totally get the sense of environment, I love that you put Circe in a temple (my mind always pictured a cottage for some reason lmao), there are various animals around, adding to the environment. Also, the way Odysseus glanced at the messy table with half-eaten food and spilled drink on it, a dead giveaway, even as he's asking if Circe has seen his men! So much thought is put into this, always love how much care and research you put in every one of your animatic! Ps. I wonder why you gave her pupils in this, since there's never been problem with understanding the gods/goddesses emotion and direction when they have no pupils (warrior of the mind, my goodbye, ruthlessness) because your staging, cinematography, and character posing are so good that it's very clear anyway.

I love the use of snakes, specifically two twin snakes, as a manifestation of Circe's power. Because as they slithered towards him I remembered that Hermes (who coindentally gave Odysseus the flower!) has twin snakes that are Caduceus. They're a symbol of HIS power. Idk if this was intentional, but I like thinking that when Odysseus cast aside the snake on his throat that there is obviously the influence of a stronger power here (Hermes) who is helping to protect him!

(Not trying to be rude just curious!) I did some research on the looms (mind you, it was like one nights worth of rabbit hole but i think i got a pretty good idea of how they work) and it seems like there are some bars out of place and pieces im not entirely sure of the purpose of? Is there a varient that looks/works more like this one? cus the inconsistencies I saw were like in 0:22 its not entirely clear why she would be holding the weft like that, and in 0:26 theres a bar that im not entirely sure the function of other than maybe helping with the natural shed (though she would then be weaving too low on the loom?) , and at 0:27 when she puts down the bar, it seems like it might be meant as a tamping motion though that would be the wrong way (she could just be setting down the beam/shettle used to tamp the weft tho so not sure?) Anyway im more just bringing this up out of curiosity of other variants that look more like this since i didnt really go into that area as much, not intended to be correcitonanry :]

@@Moss-nn6bs yeah accurate might not be the perfect term, but at the very least it is warp weighted. I feel like it’s hard to draw a loom like this when you don’t fully understand how it works. I built and worked a warp weighted loom for a class this past semester, and even then it’s difficult to know how each bar and heddle works. Some looms have multiple heddles and such, so construction also varies

The way you draw odysseus is flawless. 🫶🏻 From his little cute child like moments when he looks down at the flower she rips out of his hair, his hip cocked out asking her what she did to the scout party, and even his feet slipping away from the snakes. All tiny details I love

Absolutely obsessed with her crowding him against the table! Honestly I just adore the pose so SO much!! Actually been trying to use it as a base inspiration for my (hand drawn, pencil and paper) sketch for one of my dnd characters and an npc of their backstory. Honestly not many good poses out there for a tall female figure crowding a male figure (that doesn’t have a feminine build). Seriously though, all the poses and movement in this scene are absolutely amazing and I keep having to loop and pause this video over and over again. It’s amazing!!! You do quality work for sure! So thank you so much for sharing with us your art!!!

I love the detail of the design growing on the wall when Circe turns around to face Odysseus. Starting as a simple line, like it's a crack in the stone and then spreading out like leaves and vines are growing through it as she walks further away.

I love how you portray the gods and Odysseus like yes he is gonna be shorter than the gods but yes he’s gonna be a little baddie 😭

I do like how Epic doesn't fully treat Circe as evil. (I say not fully since the play is not exactly out yet). Both her and Odysseus have well meaning goals, trying to protect their people. Because of how women were treated in Ancient Greece, especially nymphs I get why she would be cautious. Same with Odysseus except his protectiveness is more because he is the captain and also because of what him and his men went through. Both of them see the other as dangerous so they go to threats with only a brief moment of "friendly introduction".

Wolfy more praise here we go! Wow you've done Circe so well, through watching this and her height difference (hehe Ody short) I didn't know whether to be intimidated by her power or attracted XD. Especially when she looms over him with the snakes my god. You made Odysseus act like the prankster he is and it works flawlessly. Her eyes scream beauty and power, which emphasizes the entire animation in my opinion. I could go on!

Anyone else coming back to this after being mildly disappointed by the "Hermes gave it to you, didn't he?" exchange in the official release? This version sound so much more candid and so much less stilted. I wish they'd kept it 😢 The rest of the Saga is fantastic though, don't get me wrong.

Yeah, me too, and the "Cower now and flee" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Cower before me"! But I'm obsessed with the thing as a whole!

@@jisreading Oh, yeah, I agree. I've been listening to the soundtrack like daily, and while I freaking love it, I have noticed some other odd choices. Like in Keep Your Friends Close, Eurylocus' line about strife got changed and it just sounds so weird now. Like, how does the original "cause a lot of strife" make less sense or flow worse than "and it fills us with strife"? Idk, there've been a few lyric changes that are a wee bit grating, imo

I'm obsessed with the framing of the shots :00 Circe's kind of unknown, so we don't see her eyes till 0:23 when the tension raises and we see non-mortal eyes. For the first half Odysseus is being backed up into the edge of the frame and Circe is bigger, more central, or 'above' him and then when the Ody moly reveal happens it reverses.

Omg i love the attention to detail here. How circe is using a loom like she did in the odyssey, her eyes glowing a different color from everything else to show some sort of power on her, and THE HAIR?? MY GOD IT LOOKS GREAT. The animation is so smooth and AAAAAGFIUSAFUIAGIFAUS Listen I'm just a sucker for when people put bits from the odyssey into their EPIC:The musical videos-
