Without it the grid would have collapsed and we would see rolling blackouts with industry shutdowns. Yet another factor killing growth. Demand for electricity is due to rise because of EV charging and heat pumps. our generators can only just keep up with demand as it is when the wind does not blow even though we have over 11000 turbines in UK. We are importing electricity from Europe, some of which is coal fired, but we don't count that in our emissions!

Getting it wrong must result in responsible individual going to jail. Implementing daft mandates and policies and failing costs people money, risks the economy, causes stress, and risks the stability of the country. Before implementing any policy it must be certain to succeed and if it doesn’t people responsible need to pay dearly, including all the advisors, scientists, etc. Net zero will never succeed, so it needs to be scrapped and a new approach and “slogan” found, like “lower carbon”.

UK Net Zero is miniscule and uninfluential when compared with the largest countries notably Russia, China, India and USA continuing to pollute and have made hollow pledges to reduce as they compete with each other economically. Without cheap energy we will fail to compete in the global markets. Even EU maintain a much higher level of fossil fuel use and two Hungary and Slovakia will continue to use Russian fossil fuels.
