I wish I had seen this video as soon as my baby was born.. it's the information I needed and didn't get. Now baby is 5-6 weeks and I'm playing catchup, and not sure if I'll ever be able to do even one full feed fully on the breast as I'm not able to pump enough and her needs just keep increasing. I'm combining bottle feeding (70% formula, 30% expressed breast milk) and comfort nursing.

This is really helpful info id love to know more info on how to reduce the amount of milk supply my babys been in nicu for a of couple weeks he is developing his suck swallow breath… but iv got a huge amount of milk im pumping as required i follow all instructions to ensure hes getting healthier and all but he cannot feed hes choaking no matter my position or his… just want my baby home but cannot do that until hes feeding properly consistently and without him using all energy to regain his breath… thinking of bottle feeding now to reduce the risk of choaking. Hes on the pacifier perfectly fine while gravity feeding… hope for some insight (its limited) thankyou

@@fatallasmr8030 How premature was baby born? And how old is baby now? It’s not a great idea to reduce your supply at this early point. But if baby is struggling with the flow being too fast on your breast, pumping some milk (not a full pump session) before he nurses can help.

She has teeths and started biting midway feeding and I have noticed the milk production has reduced. We have started solid foods now... Is breast feeding still required?

6 days ago i had 25 week 3 day old micro preemie twin boys. They were airlifted 3.5 hours away. I didn't start pumping or even hand expressing til late day 2 and day 3 was very rough both babies had bowel perforations baby a needed an Eli ostomy baby b just needed 2 drains put in. Day 4 i drove to the babies. And finally saw them again. I was mainly handexpssing because i hate pumping. But say 5 nicu lactation can in and scared the crap out of mee saying that hand expressing wasn't enough and i need to get over it. I pumped bed side and got 10 ml combined but after hand expressing got anorher 10mls. We finally got into ronald McDonald house and im seeing only 8-25 mls getting discouraged. I know my babies need my milk but i don't think i can pump every 2-3 hours consistently

Thank you for this. I've been looking for more information specifically for preemies and pumping. My baby was born a few weeks ago at 33w 6days and is in the Special Care Nursery. I've been pumping every 3 hours as recommended by my doctor but have reduced to 7 times a day due to how much milk I'm producing (most sessions during the day but have kept one for middle of the night). I'm on week 3 of pumping and each session provides close to 200ml (both breasts combined). Should I be worried at this amount? Is it too much? My baby is currently on an 8 feeds a day schedule and eating around 34ml per feeding (although that amount has been increasing almost daily).

You give yourself time and grace. You’re asking your body to do this 8 weeks early. It takes longer for preemie moms. Flange size needs to be fit well, a symphony used and stay super consistent with pumping every 3 hours even in the middle of the night. Do you have LCs on staff in that NICU?

I’ve seen this before. It’s ok. Don’t dwell on the days you didn’t pump Bc so much was going on. Move forward from now and just kick yourself back in gear. Pumping 8X a day. Don’t go longer than 3-3.5h without pumping. Give it time for your breasts to get the message. 1-2 weeks. Everyone’s body responds differently. But not all is lost. Take the pressure to perform (in ounces) off your back. Just put the work into the routined pumping. Don’t stress when not much comes out. Your body just needs the reminder and time. ❤️

I've been using the Spectra pump, my total volume daily is about 300 ml - I've been pumping 8 times a day but taking a break of 5 hrs at night because I had some healing to do. I'm feeling better now is it too late now to get my daily volume up now?

Catherine Nava 20mls right now at 20d pp is ok! Your body needs the time to adjust! I’ve worked with so many micro preemie mamas, and as long as they keep up their frequency (every 2-3hr even in the MOTN), often after 4-8w, their supply jumps. But the key is to not get frustrated thinking you ale I’ll always be “stuck” at 20ml. Do you know if you have any risk factors for low milk supply?

I pump next to the baby and after we do skin to skin every time. (Skin to skin every day) I had my baby at 29 weeks. And now I’m 2.5 weeks out. The only thing I haven’t done is get refitted for a pump fit (I did right after I had baby). And blind pumping. I’ll ask the lactation consultant for a refit tomorrow. Anything else you would suggest? Im super frustrated and sad.
