I started with the 24mm flanges that came with my pump and sized down to a 16mm after talking with my lactation consultant. I am getting SO much more milk and it’s pain free. Flange size matters SO much!

6:51 I totally understand why moms “want” an oversupply, especially when they think they aren’t making enough (but are probably making the right amount for their baby, but that’s a whole different story). But as a mom who struggled with overactive letdown and massive oversupply in the beginning, it was terrible. My baby wouldn’t nurse for the first few months because it was so bad. She was constantly choking, she couldn’t get a good latch because I was so engorged, and she would constantly pop off and milk would spray everywhere. It was not pleasant for either of us and it made me feel like a failure because I couldn’t feed my baby the way I was “supposed to.”

@@emily_2599 Exactly. It’s awful and can lead to weaning bc the mom and baby aren’t enjoying any part of it. Low supply and oversupply are equally frustrating. 💕

I’ve tried scalding and it doesn’t work and then it also looses some of it nutritional properties. The best way I’ve found to avoid the soapy/bad smell/taste is to freeze as soon as possible after pumping! If I pump and plan to use freshly pumped milk in a 24 hour period, I’ll use that but anything that spots longer than that in the fridge will have that taste/smell after it’s thawed. I have been breastfeeding/pumping for 7 years now and have tried so many methods.

@@thepiecesfit5049 No it will not. Many moms find that if they add drops of vanilla to the milk, baby will drink it. Others mix frozen with fresh to help. Depending on how old your baby is, if able to eat solids, you can also make a smoothie with it by mixing berries into it.

@ thank you I figured. The vanilla we got didn’t seem to change the flavor at all so trying another brand. Will definitely try more things like mixing 50/50 with freshly pumped milk. But this is disheartening, especially since our 5 month old refuses to take any formula and we’ve already tried 3 major brand names. Lactation consultants really need to do a better job at communicating this to their clients. Now we have a few months worth of frozen breast milk we can’t use till later.

I think genes also play a huge role, personally my experience is exactly as explained on video, and i breastfed for long. But I have a friend who barely breastfed and her breast have not re inflated to date. Size also plays a huge role. Sometimes, Even if you don’t breastfeed at all, after pregnancy your breasts are most likely never to go back to what they looked like before pregnancy

Wow so interesting… I was so worried about my 9.5 month old son.. he slowly stopped nursing over the past 2 weeks… he nurses maybe once in the day and then about 2-3 times at night. Also I pumped one time just to see my milk production and its about 30 ml per breast… so its definitely dropped alot. In addition to one breastfeed (if at all) a day (mind you only takes 5 sips) he drinks water/fruit juice (probably around 50ml total).. and then he loves his food.. he eats 3 snacks and 3 square meals a day. Doctor said this is fine as long as he isn’t dropping his weight and has enough wet diapers in a day. Mind you, my plan was to breastfeed until his 2nd birthday.. and now he’s decided to wean super early🤣

@@nahlahamed1292 Very interesting discrepancy right? Something I’ve thought about often. I can only imagine it is because pumping is only a vacuum. And what a baby’s mouth does at the breast to remove milk is very different and has many nuances that elicit milk that have nothing to do with vacuum.
