Yesterday CATL also announced the car manufacturers and models signed up for battery swapping, Firefly is not on the list.

Unlike gas stations, battery swap stations cannot exist in such close proximity due to draw on the power grid. This is why NIO is strategically picking their locations.

I would have thought the swap stations could have a separate big battery that could help run the station or balance the grid, so not much stress on the grid, but supports it.

The biggest and most important reason to use battery swapping is the safety of the EV from burning and exploding. Swapping battery at regular interval is like going to battery maintainence regularly.

By far, nio is the only company that exposed and structured swapping effectively, now other companies are starting to do the same, this is very good for Nio. Nio is by far the leader and it has the most effective infrastructure.

Catl will need Nio tech and software App source code like locations of batt, batt data, numbers of available batt fully charged and updated users and drivers if they are going to swap so that there are available batt etc.. it is a huge and tedious process.. I think CATL will work with NIO for batt swap and using existing softwares and hardware solutions and standardisation.

(but NOT as aggressive as Ora) In this case for FF pitch several benefits of battery swap, for example Safety (stay inside the car) No cables to manage No weather issues (hot cold ettc) Quick so no need for home charging. The can spin the marketing for battery swap in the proper direction based on target audience. I can see Ads target to dads be like "bey your daughter a FF, with battery swap she will safe ettc"

There are some Taxi services that swap also. I thought there were possibly more of those swap stations than what NIO has. The Taxi station looks similar to a shipping container and is very fast but aggressively lifts the car.

If Nio is not the standard for battery swap it doesn't matter, I think Nio need all the stations for their users, all the other Evs that can swap can use Catl's stations.

Reaction on the Firefly interview. Swapping as a way to keep your battery optimal rather than as a model for charging. For Western Europe just the right model. We just do charging at home with power from solar panels. And then occasionally score a fresh battery.

Segmenting the battery swap models from brand to brand will only increase the complexity of electrification. Standardization is necessary for battery swap stations to be viable. If Firefly and Catl will have their own standards then it will be chaotic and not conducive to the cause.

CATL is going to steal NIOs swapping model. If CATL can convince all the car companies to go with their model that is obviously not good for Nio. It looks like they are going to win to me. As a battery supplier how hard would it be for them to convince car companies to go with them they could even offer a small discount on the battery to these car companies to be comparable with their stations not Nios. Where are our partners it’s been over a year and a half still no partner cars is this possibly the reason, that they have been convinced to build their cars to be compatible with CATL. I will be a lot less worried if this was standardized but it looks like CATL wants to compete not collaborate and for other car companies to actually make Nio battery swappable eco system obsolete. What I can tell you is car manufacturers won’t build two different battery swappable models. I see a good side to this story but let’s not pretend that there is no downside to NIO. I’m hopeful firefly is compatible with firefly.
