I, as have many others, have very much enjoyed your documented year. But, I completely understand your not wanting to be a slave to the camera. Personally, I'm not that keen on having my picture taken, much less appearing in a video. Good luck in whatever you decide to do, and even if you decide to film no more we will no doubt see you on the other side of the hill from time to time. Cheers

Father Johannes, although I thoroughly enjoyed your series, "One Year in the Life... " I'm relieved that you are not pursuing MORE videos. Embrace the silence and creation there in the alps, commune with the Lord, and maintain a balance. I will keep you in my prayers, as you have opened a window for me - one that has brought a good change and a better focus. My Catholic faith was re-charged by watching you live your faith and share your thoughts. May the Lord bless and keep you ever in His loving care. Mrs. H.

Thank you for this series....it has been extremely enjoyable and uplifting. May you be blessed over the next few months as you go about your work. I look forward to the final Q and A next week and then whatever time you share with us later in the year. And thank you for the update on your 'bulb planting marathon'... and your humour regarding the 'mouse war'... many blessings and much joy for the months ahead!

Father Johannes, I don't consider myself a Christian, but spiritual. I believe in the goodness of Christ. I LOVE your videos because you help me understand why there's goodness and I have his grace. I strive to be a better person to myself and to my fellow man. For that I am forever grateful. There's a reason for stumbling on your videos. I'm forever changed.

Johannes, Thank you for this series of incredibly artful videos, they've been a delight and have truely shown your ability to craft story in both the visual and spoken medium. Whilst I don't consider myself religious, i have found these little glimpses to be both restful and thought provoking and have enjoyed your reflections. I appreciate that every beginning should have an end, however find myself a little sad that our saturdays will henceforth not be brightened by another month on the mountain. Thanks for all your hard work. JC

Thank you for taking the time to answer questions. Loved the momemts of humor and imagination....appreciated the ending with Martijn...some odd reason brought tears to my eyes. Friendships are such a gift...especially those that come later in life. A thank you to you both for sharing moments of your journeys, separate yet together, neighbors who are friends. A microcosm reflection to what community is and what we hope and dream for on a world stage...

Thank you Father, it has been a joy to visit with you. God Bless you. Your reasons for not 'continuing' as such make absolute sense and are in accordance with all you have offered thus far. A humble reminder of the gift of presence in our own lives by the model of presence in your own, too easily stolen by the endless distractions so readily available. 'Praying' It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; just pay attention, then patch a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak. How grateful the bees must be for your bulb planting! And your narration of the story of the leafy insulation being appreciated by the mice-----that would make a wonderful audio book for children. Your voice and enthusiasm for the story are wonderful to listen to. I hope you continue to film nature even if you do not have time to edit. Some day you may have the time and urge to share again. Thank you for your videos, Johannes.

Father Johannes Thank you for all the wonderful content. As a Catholic I recognize the gentle path you walk while doing your story telling. Yet I live in a world where we have dangerous actors that lead governments, like the folks that are now in power in the USA / Canada & the UK. I ask that you might you celebrate a Mass in your small chapel and ask Our Lord for a great outcome for all the folks that are worried about our futures, and more than our futures, our children's futures. I will be here for a few more years and then I'll be gone, as my life is getting up there. If I'm fortunate I get to Heaven. Otherwise, maybe I don't make the grade. I sincerely ask you to pray now more than ever for a Great Outcome and a conversion of the world to Christianity. Thanks John Mc

I completely understand your not wanting to be a slave to the camera and editing hours and hours of video. I love the reflections at the end of each video and I would like to suggest that you publish those five to ten minute reflections just using the beautiful scenery of the mountains where you live or even close ups of the flowers and pond activity. I am not looking for deep philosophy lessons but reflections about living a good life, of prayer, of the beauty of nature, the Gospels, and of the goodness of God. Thank you for this series and I hope to find more reflections from you in the future.

Well, you've left me happy... as you've said that we will hear from you again. 😊 Speaking for myself, I do not care if we only hear from you one time per year, or one time per month, or in two years, it is just good to know that you are not saying good bye to us permanently. Also, and again, speaking for myself... I would rather hear from you again whenver you are inspired to catch up with us, than have you stress over deadlines and such: I'm with you, I'd find this very stressful. Al vita Zein! Hugs! 😊 ... And don't worry about having cameras, always enjoy the nature first, and if you happen to have the camera, well then, fine. Today, I enjoyed many hummingbirds on our balcony; they come everyday as I feed them, and we have a small fountain they bathe in daily; they fly about my head when I am out tending to the plants too. 🥰 We saw crows building their nest on our bike ride, and also some hawks doing the same. We even saw a beautiful rattle snake slowly crossing the bike path. For some of these, I had my camera, and others, I didn't, and again, that's okay. You are such a lovely human, and I look forward to hearing from you in the future, whenever that may be!

I really want to turn up with my long handled pruners, and wordlessly work beside you to strip, stack and bundle the smaller branches while you cut the fallen trees with the saw. So, consider this a collaboration of intention. I find it's often easier to keep going, when you have someone finishing up the side tasks, so you can stay focused and push on. But either way, immersion is so meditative. I enjoy this, and thank you for the videos. As we are always in the opposite season to you, it's good to travel to another place to see how people are living at the same time.

You need a cat. They are pretty self reliant if you are not home but they are death on mice. My neighbor suddenly died and his cats moved over here. I can't tell you how thankful I am! I am not a cat person but they are amusing and loving. I have not been able to have a garden because of all the mice. They killed my fig tree. I had a partial garden last year, enough to realize this year we will feast! Thank you Katu and Darrell. We miss our neighbor, he was a very nice man. We are taking care of his cats.

Today I saw a tiny hummingbird alight in a tree below my apartment. I hunted for my camera to try to capture him, but by the time I figured out where the camera was, the bird had flown off and left nothing but the motion of his departure flight. He lives here and people have feeders up for them but they are not permitted by the management of the apartment. I have a blog, and I used to write in it every day. Back then I had more ferment to spur me on. Now I only write when the Spirit moves me, because I have limited energy, at nearly 77 years old :) Danke sehr.

You’re so right. It’s easy to become a slave to the camera. In getting everything documented that we forget just to enjoy the moment. I spent years watching my kids through a camera lens. I wanted to document everything that I failed to fully enjoy their plays, presentations or games. I wanted to document all I could so I would have it to enjoy it later. But ask me how many times I’ve actually looked at the photos or videos. 😅

Father Johannes, many thanks for your inspiring videos. I was always looking forward to the new episode of the annual review and I will certainly miss it. It is very understandable why you are now stopping the regular videos, but I would still like to point out to you the fact that, especially in these times, expression, the message, through images very important is and its value should certainly not be underestimated. Seeing your life on the mountain full of respect and love for nature, but also the creative interpretation, whether it concerns creating a prayer room, a table or a floor, creating terraces and greenhouses for fruit and vegetables. And especially the way you do this, with a loose, free effort, a kind of go with the flow, in the moment itself. A way of life that would be better for everyone, living as it was meant to be without the burden of the past or the future, living in the here and now. You have depicted this so beautifully and so inspiring! Many thanks again and I sincerely hope that we can still enjoy your new videos occasionally.

Adding my appreciation to you for sharing the year and understanding why you wouldn't continue. I'm one who came over while Martijn was on holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. While not "religious" in the organised sense, I appreciated the way you shared your faith and would love to discuss those ideas with someone in my community, though sadly most seem more interested in converting than conversation. As I'm back to watching Martijn regularly I'd add a request that you don't be a stranger and visit us in Martijn's videos from time to time as you certainly have in the past. Also, the suspenders, YES, I have the dutchman to thank for that too. Alhough I AM an old man Martijn convinced me that they weren't just for old men and once I tried them I discovered just how wise old men are. Peace.

Dearest Johannes, your explanation on why you have no desire to be a KZbinr on a regular basis is understandable and very well said. I will continue to subscribe to your channel in hopes that you will feel inspired to share something in the future. Here is my reason why. I follow many channels because they contribute something to my life. I crave stimulation on not just an entertainment level, but because I receive messages that are pertinent to my personal development. This video series of yours added something others do not ... a window into Johannes, the person. You are delightful in your humanness and perspectives. I particularly enjoy the way you share your experience of beauty in nature. Most of all your humor mixed with philosophy makes me smile. So, while I completely understand how you do not want to live your life in front of a camera, I think you should realize that you have shared your essence with us and this person really appreciates that. Looking forward to whatever the future may bring ... and whenever that may or may not be.

I agree with all the comments about continuing your series. I understand that in many instances you become a slave to the camera & editing to produce videos which can become all time consuming. But think for a moment, Father Johannes. You are reaching a world wide audience with your personal & powerful reflections vs a small audience when you go on your speaking engagements! Your personal reflections are very thought provoking, stimulating, & even challenging at times. Your reflections are more powerful than a homily addressing a particular topic. As a priest, this is your calling; that is, to teach Christian values & beliefs to believers as well as non-believers. Catholicism means universal. Maybe consider making your videos quarterly or twice a year in order to free yourself to do other things you enjoy, but please continue them from time to time. I, too, have enjoyed your videos tremendously. They are always captivating & fascinating to watch. I like how you balance your little corner of the earth with Mother Nature & your teachings, whether direct or indirect, about your philosophical views. Take care & Blessings

I wish to say that at the end of this video, your explanation of priesthood is profound and should be played to all priests on Holy Thursday, a day to celebrate priesthood. Your most thoughtful comments at the end of each episode - superb. I can understand why you give talks. Your words, chosen wisely, are meaningful and long-lasting and give depth to understanding the message you are sending. I am sad to see you end your segments, but do understand the need to devote your energy to your faithful vocation. Johannes, I am thankful for your quiet progression in life. And your ever endearing point of view, even as you sometimes endure persecution. I wonder if I might encourage a part-time hermit with a story. There is an old hymn called, "My Faith Has Found a Resting Place", written by Eliza E Hewitt in 1891. Eliza loved to minister to children, and one day as she taught in a classroom, a child, with much force, broke a slate over her back, causing a spinal injury, and she was forced to quit teaching school. She is known to have written many fine hymns, in the spare time she was afforded due to the injury. Still, Eliza could not quell her love for children and often was seen teaching children in Sunday School. My favorite quote from this hymn, mentioned above, is, "It is enough that Jesus died and that He died for me". Eliza had to have to come to that point where she accepted that Jesus was enough as she suffered with this overwhelming loss of ministry and her painful injury.( If you know anything about people who are called to ministry, they suffer more from the loss of ministry, than the cause of it.) But she overcame, and it was very apparent in all the beautiful hymns she wrote. Some of her hymns are under the name, Lidie H Edmunds, her Pseudonym.( Or since I am from the US, I might call it her "fake name". haha) Eliza's experiences sometimes ring true, that the people who you love the most, could be the reason for unwanted changes and an unchartered course. "It is enough that Jesus died and that He died for me." I quote these words to myself when I am upset about many things, including the elections in the US, (I am not a Trump supporter), and the division among protestants, over him, are devastating. Sometimes all the arguments about religion and who is right, and who is wrong do not matter...and the persecution that comes....you know how that is. These words remind me to hold my head high, being confident in what the scriptures say about who I am in Jesus. In the end, nobody can read my heart like Jesus can, and I must move towards what is right for me, according to His purposes alone. Thank you for being a testimony of this, to me, and to all your viewers, by humbly standing your ground unapologetically.

Thank you for a peak into your life. I like you have a rat issue. A Texas bobcat has arrived and suddenly they are gone. Not to worry, their progeny will soon replace them. Stay well and faithful to your calling where ever it takes you.

Thank you for your videos. I enjoyed them very much and looked forward to them ever week. I also enjoyed your reflections at the end, they made me think about my lack of a relationship with God, and if it got me thinking about that then it was worth my while spending my time with you these last 12 weeks. Thank you.

We have had the feud with mice. We found a little nest in our shed. They were just too cute to evict so then we had dozens more of them and they became a problem. My husband and I were impressed that you were saying the Latin mass. It's the best! My husband is in severe pain from the final stages of prostrate cancer and I have severe arthritis. Would you please remember us when you say mass? Love your site. Thank you so much!

Thank you for the series. I'm pretty much a full time hermit, and I recognise the spiritual joy that you have recorded in your observation of the life around you and in creative work. I'll miss your musings, too, though I'm not a Christian.

Your videos have been a blessing. If and when you decide to do something else as a series,or just an occasional presentation, we will enjoy it and it will be a blessing I'm sure. And you do very well with English, by the way. If you feel like it, an occasional update on your garden or renovations would be great, accompanied by, of course, your spiritual insights. Again, thank you.

I came back tonight to re-listen to January and found the QAs. I cannot not be more grateful for an hour long meditation on "clearing the road" which ended in "community. with Martjin" . I ask that you do not doubt the message that God has enpowered you to share through this "channel". I find he always works in the most simple and humorous ways. Cheers, Don Johannes. Bless you.

Johannes, the lovely table you made for your new patio might be more useful if you put the top onto a pedestal base. I see that in order to get into the stone ledge side, to sit on, you have to crawl in from the ledge. A pedestal would let you slip in from the side. I did enjoy watching you constructing the legs so much, however, I vowed to make one myself! Have a lovely year till you come on again.

The mystery of our faith. I think I would enjoy learning mystic philosophy. I do hope you consider doing more videos and sharing your insight. You have gift. I think of all the times I am moved to tears by the sermons in mass and there are many but not all the priests or deacons can fully engage their congregation. It truly is a gift.

Grazie ancira, caro padre. Thank you Don Johannes for the work of evangelization that you are carrying out with faith and humility speaking about Christ to "Western man"; man who is forgetting God, and is forgetting Him because he considers His word useless, indeed, cumbersome. We are convinced that we are walking on the road that leads to happiness, while instead we are on that of desperation....The magnificent celebrations in the square, illuminating the most significant monument of a "poor" ex-catholic ( and ex Christian ) Nation for having enshrined the constitutional right of every woman to eradicate unborn life from her womb is testimony to this. What will be the future of such a society? There is no doubt about its annihilation, including material destruction. Don Johannes, you are the "good sower" and some seed will certainly fall on the fertile soil, and will germinate, and bear fruit. Thanks again, dear father.
