As a major Hip Hop head I personally think the DK Rap is incredible. The subtle switch up on the production for every Kong & their personality shining through for each of their verses is great. It definitely harkens back to classic 80's Run DMC/Beastie Boys style of Rap, which brings the cheese factor in full effect [especially if you are younger and listening to it for the first time in the 2000's] but that's part of it's charm!

What I heard was that those kings never came back to other titles was because they were created by Rareware employees, therefore making them “spin off” characters in a Nintendo owned franchise. I don't think that the scope is comparable. Finding koroks in BoTW is way tougher just due to them actually being blended into the world by design. Also DK64 has a very simple geometric level design bc of hardware limitations that makes it easy to look for the collectables. It is still a lot of unnecessary padding, obviously.

It's not as bad as it sounds. (DK64) All 900 Koroks however...no, thanks.
@Howitchewstofeel5gum3 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't even be much of an issue if you could just swap characters on the fly, but so much of this game is just running into a collectible you cannot collect or a switch you cannot press as your current character, backtracking to the Kong barrel to switch to the character you need, and then backtracking AGAIN to the first spot. It's just not fun. And so many of the Kong's abilities are superfluous and make the game unnecessarily convoluted, because all they amount to in the end is another version of pressing a character-specific switch to progress.

The only times you would really need to back track to a previous level is after you get all the kongs (around the 3rd level so you only need to go back to two levels) and for like one golden banana that requires a ability from the level after it. If you focus on doing one kong at a time and only switch when you need to for opening a path for a different kong or when you got everything for that kong it's not nearly as bad as he makes it sound

Man I love this game to pieces growing up. As I got older it saddened me to see how much people seemed to dislike it. I always got so much enjoyment how large the worlds were at the time and the collectathon method just made me explore every nook and cranny of the worlds so the collectables were never too much for me. I also loved having to play as five different kongs each with their own abilities and power ups (though why make Tiny and not bring Dixie in for the game?). The bosses are also a lot of fun. The mine-kart sections and barrel blast sections with DK are also so much fun. I also like how you don't have to worry about drowning in the water in this game; say what you will but I think I would have hated Gloomy Galleon if I had to worry about air. My only gripe about the game is the need for those Rareware and Nintendo coins to get the final key to get to the final boss. I could gt the Rareware just fine but I always struggled with the original DK arcade game. I replayed the game in 2009, 10 years after the release of the game, and I was finally able to beat it to get that Nintendo coin and beat the game.

I think the reason why collecting is so great in this world is because the attention to detail in literally ever single aspect which you just can't get enough of. The music is just perfect everywhere. Every character feels unique, even the enemies all are very unique. And every environment is different. And then what I like most is the challenging aspects of the game, because you just know which things are hard and if you beat them you feel great.
@ChaosCorpse4tube3 жыл бұрын
Jirard, what you've mentioned about completion in collect-a-thons, and how you've changed as you've aged is something that hits close to home. I complete games too myself; ranging from Disgaea to The Binding of Isaac, from Katamari Damacy to A Hat in Time. But for many, many years now, I've been apprehensive in my approach to games based on their completion criteria and missable content or trophies. It even got so bad at one point that I save scummed to save the first NPC in danger once you got your first gun in Fallout: New Vegas. Needless to say, I am my own worst enemy for actually getting proper enjoyment and engagement in games anymore now. I think a lot of that stemmed from spending a few years after high school as a full time game tester having to go through that repetition that was test cases. That was the setup, and then I got my PS3. Trophies became my addiction. Oh, this game has missable content? Better find a spoiler free walkthrough, and follow along pausing after every event to double check that nothing missable just opened up. (Note: This was most notably present in JRPGs that took well over 60 hours to finish, and I did not want to do a repeat run if I could help it.) Does the game have difficulty settings that require "getting good" to extreme extents? Well, nope! ...or use an alt account to try it out. I mean, yes, I spent well over 2300 hours in a Disgaea game, taking a super buff network shared base character, adding DLC content onto it, and briefly revived the distribution of said character all in order for me to use them as a means to duplicate said character enough times as to act as bases for every class in the game following a plan I had built several spreadsheets covering. And yes, getting achievements with the Lost in Binding of Isaac prior to holy mantle was an absolute challenge. But, I really can only do so much anymore now. For a while, despite my clumsiness with the spoken word and general social anxiety, I actually considered making a real KZbin account and starting a sort of antithesis to your channel. One where I try my best to play games blind, and be OK with missing things. Maybe find and support a network of like minded gamers who have truly turned their hobbies of games into (non-profit) work. Been at least 7 years since that thought occured to me, and I'm just as bad as I was then, if not worse. Still want to enjoy video games, but it is more an addiction than a hobby anymore, so really, I couldn't speak as an advocate in the public, having never found that answer myself. So, extremely long winded post behind me, here's a question. Have you ever thought about just playing something blind outside of something you'd consider posting to Beard Bros.? And if you'd already done so, sorry for not checking beforehand.

Good to see their is someone who loves this game as much as I do. This is my favorite game of all time. It was just so ahead of it's time when it first came out, and it's the only game that I hope Nintendo would remaster one day.

DK64 is by far in my top two games for the N64. Anytime I feel like pulling out the system, it’s to play this or Paper Mario.

The beauty of such collectathons is in always having something to do, you beat the game but still want to mess around in the world without starting a new game, trying to do it all in a limited time kills it

This game is both the high and low point of collect-a-thon games. So much to do, too much to do.

I picked this game up for the hell of it years and years ago, didn’t quite get into it, and then heard that it was pretty widely disliked. So it’s been collecting dust ever since. But now after seeing this new perspective, I think I’m actually gonna restart it. Thanks Jirard!

Maybe I’m biased because this was my favorite game throughout all of my childhood and it’s still up there now, but there is no game that deserves an hd remake more than this one. Why did Microsoft buy Rare 😖

Was the intro a callback to the Mario Allstars pack ? That gag was my favorite from the old show and what got me hooked before I got to "know" you. The "but beardman" joke was charming and fun but I'm glad to have grown with the channel and see you're still doing the content you did in new and exciting ways. You guys rock.

The bonus ending wasn't auditions for this game; it was an audition for a non-existant GameCube sequel. If you look closely, the sign has the word "auditions" plastered over a picture of a dolphin, and Dolphin was the in-development code name for the GameCube.

I don't care what others say, I love the game and I don't think the collection matters if you aren't a completionist. What's nostalgic to me the most is the dark atmosphere throughout the game that I love so much.

I recently beat this game after never being able to as a kid, absolutely worth it. I would agree that requiring me to beat the retro games in order to beat the game is a little too much. But seeing the amount of personality and charm even the final boss fight has alone is enough to make me want to beat it again
