DK country music has aged like wine. This particular song only gets better each time you listen to it imo, it's one of those I can put on repeat for hours while I'm doing other things, it's very meditative

I think I remember hearing a fun fact about this song too that this song was like some kind of miracle for the hardware. Like the Super Nintendo and its cartridges should not have been able to produce these sounds but they got it to work somehow. Neat stuff! Love this song. Love the vid!

This song was David Wise's favourite composition for 20 years, only surpassed by Seashore War from the Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze soundtrack in 2014. Yes, this year is the 30th anniversary of the first Donkey Kong Country game and the 10th anniversary of the newest, time certainly flies.

Coming from the Nintendo corner, I can only think of one other aquatic theme that might have that much talk, when it comes to underwater themes: Dire Dire Docks (Mario 64). Not as melancholic but absolutely brimfilled with memories for many people, especially since it was one of the first major steps into 3D games. Different vibe but works as well. Anyways let's talk about Aquatic Ambience. What an awesome piece of music. It's the perfect tune to just shut of for a bit and flow. A fan favorite that has been used for like 5 Arrangements in the newest game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (2014. Yeah, DK fans have been waiting for a while now). David Wise is mostly known for DK or generally Rare games, but I can definetly also recommand his works in the Yooka-Laylee series made by Playtonic Games, which I know is basicly recollected Rare but still it hits different^^'

I was always a pc guy never a nintendo guy either. And yet I was hearing these games from friends who did have a super nintendo in the 90s. I mostly saw them and played them just a little as a youngling in their houses from time to time but never enough to satisfy my curiosity. And only managed to finally enjoy them fully later, as an adult, even with emulation. It didn't diminish any part of their quality, nor how amazing the co-op experience was, even 10 and 20+ years later. They were simply a creative unbelievable vibe from start to finish. A soothing, relaxing vibe, with every amazing track blending the perfect sounds of nature, an air of mystery and yet the feeling of wanting to go on a carefree adventure. Few osts ever encapsulate those feelings as perfectly as these games ! And sharing this great adventure with a friend... or a brother/sister !

oh, for the title, pretty much all the DKC tracks (and levels) have alliterative names, so "aquatic ambiance" doesn't sound so much like a placeholder in context

It’s amazing the sound he was able to achieve on the SNES David Wise has strong 80’s influences I think he’s mentioned it somewhere. Phil Collins, Depeche Mode, and Vangelis, to name a few seem likely.

I literally have a playlist of different versions of this song. Also Stickerbush and alot of it's versions. Nice relaxing musis for naps or just to vibe to. 😌 I remember getting the SNES and Donkey Kong was one of the first games we got on it. I use to just sit at the water stage and just let the music play.

I can't believe you hadn't heard this before! I saw your post asking for water music suggestions and obviously this was my first thought but I didnt even bother suggesting it because I was like "it's a no brainer, it'll already be in the video". Also gotta say the Queens blood music is such a jam. Makes me smile every time it kicks in and makes me want to play! Although I gotta admit sometimes it distracts me from what's being spoke about cause it's too catchy haha.

I dip in and out of DKC semi regularly over the years and this song still brings such a mix of nostalgia and calm. The calm is probably a good for some of the later water levels haha.

This is one of those songs that seems like it's overrated, but then you listen to it (sometimes again) and realise that no, it's rated exactly as it should be. Aquatic themes aspire to be as fitting as this song. It pretty much set the precedent for what aquatic themes should be. Obviously, it's been a hot minute since DKC, and we've gotten plenty of other themes and even games entirely revolving around being underwater, but I can almost guarantee you, that this game and this song is under all those game dev's belts.

Not necessary for reactions but I thought I should mention that Jammin' Sam Miller has recreated many Super Nintendo game songs using the original samples to have a version without the limitations of the old sound chips. He has even gotten in contact with the composers in many cases to make things as accurate as possible. As always your reactions make my days better and I wanted to say thanks for putting these out there!

This isn't a request for this channel, rather just something I'm suggesting you do on your own time- I think it's worth checking out the Gameboy Color version of Aquatic Ambience. It's the same song but on hardware that can't make the synths happen, so it has a pretty unique sound to it. So while it's not so different that I think a full reaction is worth it, it is different enough that it's worth giving a listen.

Playing this game as a kid was mesmerising. In an era of console games that often had janky graphics, bright colours and sounds, this game switched up the tone so uniquely. Slapstick humour and goofy characters were set against a backdrop of dark and moody pre-rendered atmospheres in level design and often wistful, ethereal tunes. You knew then it wasn't quite scary, but it had this strangely haunting and lonely melancholic maturity about it that came totally out of left field when compared with Super Mario World or Yoshi's Island, etc. The nostalgia of remembering sitting up of an evening tucked up with your CRT TV just getting sucked into the experience...so good.

You should listen the aquatic theme for Donkey Kong 2. It is na Ed "Lockjaw Saga" and it's really different from the first game. It's Also one of my favorits, cause it doesn't have the same tranquility and open wide vibe as in the ocean, it's actually more agitated

This music is pretty damn great. Though honestly DKC's soundtrack (and DKC2) is kind of on another level compared to other SNES games. For aquatic themes I'd love to see Ys Origin's Water Prison come up, it would be perfect for it. Doubt it's gonna happen though. It's probably the single most chill dungeon song in an Ys game.
