Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is not a rhythm game like the bongos with Donkey Konga. At first I thought I had to play along with the music but only ended messing myself up. This game for the Nintendo Gamecube (with our glorious HDMI mod) keeps the wackiness of the Donkey Kong universe and shares some elements of gameplay that would appear in later titles. This is a bit different from with Donkey Kong games. There's no letters, not even any hearts for health. In fact its all about platforming and completing combos to get you there.

I am definitely gonna check that out. The Idea with a gamecube with an HDMI port sounds AMAZING! Also, I've always wanted to try Jungle Beat! The bongos were always so intriguing as a device!

A remake, please. This game deserves a series. It's sad it sold poorly on the GC. The fun, the originality, the immense pleasure of moving DK around, platforming and doing tricks to get max combos, all with the Bongos. I agree the Bongos makes this game even more special. I also agree about boss fights, the Kongs are by far the best fights in all DK games I've played so far. Maybe it will come as a shock to some, but it's possible my favorite DK game is Jungle Beat (I played all DKC on SNES but not Returns or Tropical Freeze yet). In any case, thanks for talking about this game. It is so under-appreciated. I don't care the game was short, the pleasure was immeasurable and I want more games like those. The only issue I had is lack of challenging contents. Part of the problem however was because I was too good at the game. At some point I could achieve a run with no damage in all stages, bosses, beating the entire game with all Platinum badges in just 2h.

I love this game, the first time I played this in my youth my jaw dropped when I beat that first sleeping warthog thing. The action had me HOOKED and that with a controller, I probably would've enjoyed it more if I had the bongos. It was really unlike anything I had experienced.

I think that this is the best example of completing games that I've ever seen. Sure, you only get cosmetic rewards, but it doesn't bother you because the experience is fun. When the game is unpleasantly difficult, those cosmetic rewards feel like a sick joke. In this, the rewards fit the amount of effort expended.

Man Donkey Kong jungle beat is one of my favorite games. I have the Wii version which has motion controls and it is another great way of playing the game.

I think the reason there's a constant close-up of DK is that most people had smaller CRT TVs when this game came out, and they wouldn't be able to see DK's expressions as clearly without it. That might not sound important from a gameplay perspective (it mostly isn't), but there are areas where you can ground-pound to make hidden bananas appear, and they're usually only indicated by DK looking at the ground with puckered lips. If you're playing on av small TV, you might not notice DK making that face without the zoom-in.

The OST of this game is a true masterpiece, probably one of the best ever produced by Nintendo. I don't know if it's due to the PTSD i got while completing Banshee Swamp and Cloudy Heights, but i will never forget the music of this game.

I think if Jirard wants to go full-on Nintendo weird, he should complete Odama. One part pinball game, one part RTS. You shout commands at your troops through a microphone which you stick in the second memory card slot while also using the Odama (ie the pinball) to do other things. Never played it, but it sounds like it would be right up his alley.

I got Donkey Kong Jungle Beat in July 2005 with my very first Gamecube which is indigo. I stopped playing DKJB in 2008 because my indigo Gamecube started to mess up and I found a platinum at a yard sale for 10 dollars and got it also the black model too. I have 3 Gamecubes indigo,black, and platinum and I just restarted DKJB for the first time in nearly 14 years and a lot more better at it than I was a long time ago.

Bought this game when I was ten, 12 years ago. Never got the bongos. Nevertheless, I love this game to death. What's a good time. Fast paced, wacky, wild, hype. I can complete the game in about five hours, and it's always a blast
