Smooth paper sheets of around 200 grams-per-square-meter (gsm) work best. And preferably size A3 when you need longer strips.

I know I'm late, but one thing I do is print on normal office paper, glue the printed paper onto another paper and then cut that into the strips. It's the perfect thickness
