Plot Twist: King K Rool's stomach is so large that it honestly looks distended. This can be a serious sign of ascites, a build up of fluid common in liver failure. Another issue with liver failure is hypokalemia, a low amount of potassium in the blood. Bananas are a known rich source of potassium. What this literally means is that King K Rool's liver is failing and he just wants bananas to help him with his condition. But Donkey Kong is too greedy.
