The rest of the companions has their moments when they question the doctor and his actions (like when rose stopped the ninth doctor from killing the "last" dalek), but mostly they are just yes-men to the doctor. But Donna (even if she's only in this Christmas special and not really a companion) just questions everything and is a very strong presence challenging most of the doctor's actions which makes her the best.

Fun fact, the actress Sarah Parish who played Empress of the Racnoss in this episode has starred with David Tennant in a number of shows together. She even joked that they'll be playing an elderly couple in the far future one day because of that! Probably the most prominent thing they've done together is the TV film "Recovery" which aired only two months after this episode, where they played the husband and wife couple and Parish's character is trying to help Tennant's character through recovery and bring his old self back from a life changing injury Tennant's character suffered.

The best companion. Seriously I love Donna as a character. She's everything you want in a companion. Where some of them have felt like they were just kind of following him around with their jaws on the floor, Donna was always right there next to him like, "Explain to me exactly what's happening in terms I can understand," and as soon as she was caught up she started making moves. She's also one of the funniest and most daring people he's ever had along. Donna freaking rules. It's always the ones you don't expect much out of that come in clutch when it really counts. @thepandorica16603 ай бұрын
And notice how this is the first time in the revival run he's been without a staying companion. He's just lost Rose and Donna was definitely his crutch here.
@Lugen1013 ай бұрын
The best part about this special is that it shows why it is so important that the doctor has a companion to travel with. He is carrying so much weight, he basically still has PTSD over the time war and with recently losing Rose, he gets lost in his thoughts and emotions. Like Donna said, he needs someone to tell him to stop. Never forget, in the first Tennant special he gave the alien a chance to surrender and when he attempted to backstab The Doctor, he killed him with no hesitation. Then the time he spent with Rose in series 2 seemed to really help balance him out. The companions seem to both help him heal and keep his mind distracted. Also I think it is awesome that you are watching Torchwood in tandem with Doctor Who. If you are trying to follow the chronology of the show, then you will want to watch the season 1 finale of Torchwood before hitting Series 3 episode 12 on Doctor Who.
@oliversmith92313 ай бұрын

What a land line, those are still a thing a phone bill, data is a thing for mobiles sure and people have them more but I mean sure phone/internet as whatever plans and land lines are whatever they are of plans or packets and sure gotten Roku boxes as well because reasons of their tv service app on those boxes. Maybe different plans in other countries for phone/internet but didn't get what you meant by that. Ah chip/candy and other flavours sure.
