Donna Summer became my idol in 1976 when I was 10. She went to high school a mile from where I grew up in Dorchester, Massachusetts! I was fortunate enough to see her twice in concert. She was a talented and special woman! R.I.P. Queen 👑 of Disco and Pop music 🎶

Aw, man. They dimmed all the lights when the Queen of Disco passed away. She did leave a lot of great songs behind, including this one. And DiscoCat showed great respect by extending “Dim All The Lights” with tender, loving care. This is a masterwork. I have to do something about the onions, Left them in the living room. Fantastic rendition. Takes me back to 1979. Wish I could stay there.

Disco Purrfection Indeed! Could listen to this one all day (And so I will ;) This track was in the midst of an insane run of singles from Ms. Summer with producer Giorgio Miroder on Casablanca records in 1978-1979. 1978 gave us Last Dance, MacArthur Park and Heaven Knows. And then 1979 saw Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, Dim All the Lights, No More Tears (with Babs) and On the Radio(!) Which is your favorite? 🤩… Hard to choose , Eh ? They all reached #5 or higher on US Billboard Pop (including four # Ones). They all went Gold or Platinum. How many artists have ever had eight singles like that ??😀❤️ Her extended notes still give me goosebumps ! 😮😊… So Indeed, Let Donna 🎵…Fill You Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-UUUU-UUUUUUUUP🎵!

That is her holding the long note. It is reverbed, but she does it on one breath. For a while, it was the longest note held in a pop song. Of course, Babs was also someone who capitalized on having lungs of leather... I'd love it to be 1979 again and hear this song and The Main Event/Fight and No More Tears, um , if you'll pardon the expression, on the radio... My only question: why does she pronounce "eternity" so strangely??

This song should’ve been a #1 hit!! It probably would’ve went to #1 if Casablanca didn’t release No More Tears so fast. I heard she was disappointed that they released No More Tears so fast as she wanted that number 1 for Dim All The Lights as she wrote this song all by herself.

Suicidal at the height of her fame, suffering PTSD related to sexual and physical abuse at the hand of Pastor, boyfriends. A real survivor story. Your description comments demonstrate how little critical regard Donna received even as she was blowing up Billboard and raking in cash, and how people didn't appreciate the depth of the genre during its heyday. Hell, queen didn't even get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until she was gone, and then only because enough people bitched about it.

What Did Dionne do that year had her beat out Donna at the Grammies? It's funny coz over 40 something years later you still hear Donna's golden hits off the Bad Girls album everywhere...but not what Dionne Warwick 's music was at the time..the only 2 songs Dionne did I liked was "Them Came You"(1974) and "That's What Friends Are are For" (1985)
