The Donna Kato Super Simple Slinky Bracelet! I absolutely love it! ❤❤❤ I was cracking up at the squeaking of your extruder. My cat's ears were twitching like crazy and my husband walked in the room and thought I was watching a bird video. 😂😂😂

I don’t work with clay but I do use an extruder for fondant cakes. I removed the handle on one of them and attached it to a cordless drill. No effort required. You can also remove both end caps. So to get a longer slinky stop before the end of the clay puck and add another from the handle end.
@fancifuldevices
@fancifuldevices 11 ай бұрын
Oh no clay is much too firm for that. Especially Donna’s.

@@fancifuldevices if you can hand crank it I’m sure a drill which is powerful enough to put a screw in wood would have no problem with conditioned or even non conditioned clay.

I don't have photographic evidence but I have done this years ago and it was an unmitigated failure! I can't remember what clay I used but it was probably Fimo. It broke in several places as soon as I put it on. I thought it was because I was a novice and it was a ridiculous idea with the medium. You, lovely Donna have proven that it's the clay! Your clay and your conditioner! Cannot wait to give it another go. Thanks so much for all you do xx

I’m 42 and have been sick for a while. My doctor suggests I may not survive this summer. I’ve got a disabled adult daughter I’m trying to spend every second of that time with. So we’re binge watching your videos and learning to work with clay together. We’ve only got my husband’s military retirement so we can’t afford to get much clay. But we’ve managed to make some truly awful canes. It’s been wonderful. These videos you make, they matter more than you could know. Thank you.

Dear Cynthia, I am so sorry to hear this - how hard this must be for you and your daughter and family. I’m very glad you’re enjoying and learning about polymer clay with your daughter - being together and sharing a learning experience are wonderful experiences and she will carry them with her through life. Can you email me at dkkato@gmail.com? I would very much like to you a pc care box. I did today’s class with newbies in mind and so could be very helpful. Big hugs, Donna

Beautiful! I just love the colorent! I wonder if the powders, coming from Temu, will stay vibrant over time. I think my granddaughter would love one. But I wonder, if the bracelet can hold up to being worn by a young teenage-age girl? She isn't a "bam bam" kind of person. But she's active. I guess I'll just have to make two in case she shatters hers. I fully agree we should go along with the rest of the planet and use metric measurements. A pound to us sure means something different than a pound in England. Lol. I enjoyed the video very much. Thanks from Vermont!

What fun. I like this because I have larger wrists and have trouble finding bracelets large enough. Thinking about stacking, or horizontally layering different clay colors in the extruder to see how they come out, and/or making slightly larger diameter coils.

sounds good, Cynthia! These are great fun and easy to do. I think you'll find that layering colors in the clay gun doesn't give you great color on the outside - when you cut the snakes, you get rings but I tried that and didn't get the blending I expected. Try it, I might have messed something up! Hugs, D

I really like this slinky bangle and it doesn't make a noise. So glad I have the LucyS clay extruder, complete with an electric drill. My hands and shoulder are so arthritic. Metric is really easier to use. Business wise there are some businesses and product that missed out during the original conversion. I remember well as a kid of about our currency conversion in 1966, I was 13 at the time, my bus driver and school tuck shop were suspicious of me paying in decimal currency on the very first day but we had a business, we had to have our cash drawers ready and product conversation ready to go. We has a Service Station, it was painful at first but so much easier.

Hi! I'm not Donna but saw your question and I've made polymer clay buttons to match a favorite blouse...I use primarily Premo clay and the buttons have withstood the washer and dryer many times! Similarly I have covered the handles of some cheap flatware and they've survived the dishwasher but I stop it just before the drying cycle and either towel dry them or let them air dry. Hope this helps 👍🙂

Well My first attempt was a major fail…..but I will try again. I did use junk clay and put the conditioning bar in. But i also put in the blackout stuff because it was junk clay and I am wondering if the blackout softens also. I also think I used a bigger circle than you. I wish these things came with sizes written on them. It would sure help. Thank you thank you for being here and getting my brain working. I feel like I am watching one of my girlfriends when I watch you.

Cheryl, yes, the blackout also makes clay softer so it might have been just overly soft. My extrusion is actually a bit dry feeling - softer but still firm. It'll work, kid! My screens are the Makins screens. I think it's about 2mm, best I can figure Hugs, D

I only do resin work, BUT I so enjoy watching other forms of Art being created. I use chameleon powders a lot - they're gorgeous! Loved the whole idea of slinky bracelets. 😊💕 Slinkies were a favorite toy of mine. This is a great Tutorial, Donna! Thank you! Was just watching a lady make cards and using lots of embossing powders... So, just now wondered if you could use, say, Clear embossing powder on top of the chameleon powder after the clay has been baked? Would it adhere? Crack? 🤔 If not, the shine might be really cool. 👍😊 *Naturally, my mind goes to resin use...maybe a top surface doming of UV resin (thick type)? Doming gives a super shiny, magnified look at those gorgeous chameleon powders. **Yes, all resins are toxic, just by their nature, so Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is a good idea, esp. for sensitive users. JDiction (not affiliated at all, but I use it exclusively for UV resin work) makes EXCELLENT UV resins of varying viscosity, relatively non-toxic (by comparison), and cures VERY hard.
@DonnaKatoArt
@DonnaKatoArt 10 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the information - resin is a new thing for me. I've done limited work with embossing powder as a surface treatment, I usually mix it right into the clay but I have used a bronze color and it melted onto the clay and it's remained there just fine for years! Most are using resin to encase and it works just fine. I have 2 part and UV. I use both depending on how much I'm doing at the time. Cheers, D

I have done some slinkies with clay years ago, but I didn't figure the ends problem ! But I don't think one can even find a photo of it on internet :D Anyway, I love yours

Did you say what size of those powders you got? I'm interested!

Hi Barbara; You know some are very fine and others are coarse. I don't quite know how, in the description, to tell what I'm going to get so I get lots and lots. I don't think this is quite the answer you might have wanted...sorry. I just worked with a new set and they're more coarse but the jar and lid are great. They worked fine on the clay but the consistency was different. You'll see. Hugs, D

Could Repel gel be used to make the cured clay easier to remove from glass?

It could but it’s actually pretty easy to get it off, I think! ❤️

Hi Donna, I'd be scared the glass jar would crack in the oven? Really wan't to try this😃, what temperature did you cook the slinkies? Love your videos and commentary x
@DonnaKatoArt
@DonnaKatoArt 5 ай бұрын
now, the curing temps for pc range from 275 to 300F so those temps won't crack glass unless you freeze the glass then put it in the oven, then might crack, we did the opposite when we were kids. heat the glass then drop it in water. anyway, i have never had a problem with cracking, never. may i ask you a favor, would you mind subscribing to my channel? really helps me and spreads the tutes further and grows our pc world. you see, you're a big part of that. thank you in advance! hugs, d

Hi Kathy! Okay, I use Kato so I cure at 300f for 20 - 60 minutes depending on what it is. These bracelets are cured for a long time - 50 - 60 minutes. If you use another brand, then just follow the instructions on the package! Cheers!

Hi Donna I live in Australia in the subtopics. The weather here is very hot and very very humid. Do u think the slinky bracelet would be viable in this climate?
@DonnaKatoArt
@DonnaKatoArt 9 ай бұрын
Vivienne, I think the amount of sag would depend on the clay. Kato hold up to ambient heat better than the others. I don’t think any if the strong brands would break, just change shape. Good luck! D

Hello Donna from Australia, I love your tutorials and would love to try them. But unfortunately I can not purchase black kato clay in Australia. It seems unbelievable but it's true. I have looked everywhere online and there is none to be found. I live in rural new South Wales , a state of Australia so I have no local stores to purchase from so rely on internet shopping for my clay supplies. Normally I purchase from Western Australia but sadly they don't have any either. Anyway please keep up your wonderful work , it is so inspirational to watch. 😊

Thank you, Kim. Sorry about the clay, kid. Shipping costs have killed a lot of commerce, it seems and I don’t think Kato was so common before, either! Hugs, D

If this is still an issue for you, Last I checked, 2wards polymer clay (WA based) had Kato ranges back in stock, including Black and Blackout. And "over the rainbow" is a Melbourne based business that usually carries all the Kato colour's as well. Between these two I've usually managed to get everything I need.

Wowzers! Do you think sculpy would work?
@DonnaKatoArt
@DonnaKatoArt 10 ай бұрын
Colleen, Sculpey 3 won’t work. Too brittle and weak! Use a strong clay like Kato, Cernit, Fimo should work, Cosclay. I haven’t used Fimo or Cosclay but I understand they are very durable. ❤️
