Donnerbüchsen, and a tick in the box...

I just received the last item I needed to complete the passenger section of my Märklin collection. It is a simple luggage van of the DB, model number 4102.
In this video, we will
- have a quick look at the related stock Märklin produced in the 1980s,
- make an attempt a recreating a few train composition based on pictures using various items from the collection

@@The3rdRail On the photo at 16:00 the P8 has a Wannentender and I think Märklin also had such a P8 :-) According to pictures I found that was one variant of 3098. I already have too much stuff but P8 and T18 or in Märklin-language 3098, 3099 and 3x06 are missing.

Marvelous collection. I suppose the 4000 was cheap for kid's starter sets or something. Still plenty around on ebay for a few dollars lol. We have a few pulled by the small 3000 and added windows and interior LED lights but they are primitive. I'm stunned that M used the same article numbers for essentially different liveries. How confusing indeed 🤔

The very basic model is not related to the Donnerbüchsen, but is an earlier Bavarian vehicle. And it's a good thing to go back to the time when rivet counting was not a thing for Märklin... Just slap some numbers on a vehicle and done. These were also used in combination with the V36 diesel locomotive (usually in red)

I also own some 4002s and 4003s, also love to use a 3003 (also from the 60s) to pull them. I always love the sound of the metal from the 4002 and 4003s plus that M-track. Great video!

The Poles inherited many Donnerbüchsen as well as extant at the time BR 24, so on my large model layout 4002 & 4003 follow FM800 representatives of such WWII reparations. All three countries' rolling stock can appear if modeling a divided Berlin

Polish or West German Donnerbüchsen wouldn't have been seen in a divided Berlin (>1961)🤔 Even East German Donnerbüchsen were used a distance away. Long distance stock is another story though... And FYI the East German Deutsche Reichsbahn operated the West Berlin railway network until after the reunification, with the exception of the S-Bahn, which was transfered to West Berlin in 1984. BErlin is a nice theme to pick though... Plenty of possibilities. Thanks for spending some of your valuable time here today, and for your comment.

@@The3rdRail OH dear Mr. Das 3te Gleis, as your name shown here in german youtube? yes, P8 ok, they had their place? just recognized, that the BundesBahn used Steamloks so long, because they did not go "kaputt" *LOL* but against a BR 96 (i try to get running it is from Rivarossi with two "Antriebswellen" to drive one Axle at every ??? Steampowered unit.. a nightmare, takes 0,67 Amp ! ???) well... that you gave all even the 81 a place and your cool and claim voice to explain! i came here over "modellbahnkeller" back to M-Gleis and that old analoge Stuff... just moved to a new home, seaching for things an a Place to get a Track like yours =) my videos are very poor... but after a day where here in germany nothig got forward, to set a mighty weighted(?) BR 81 on track to see after over 50 years it runs like first day get a BIG smile on my face=) even your video did! =)) i have a look tomorrow at channel here it is 2:15 night =) but you are awake? Thank you very much for this beautiful video. The classes V 65 and the steamloko Br 93 would also be good examples. They drove in our region between Winterberg and Frankenberg, but unfortunatley Märklin has not built these lokos up today, only Roco and last year Pico the class 93. Best regards.

In danish they are called "rumlekasser", which ,as you mentioned, rumble boxes. The 24 and the 38, where just DB models with DRG decals. Untill 1952 the german railways only had two headlights. Three headlights meant "Watch out!, I'm driving in the opposite direction". The big wind deflectors are usually called Wagner and the smaller ones Witte. Wagner was the head of DRG untill 1942, when he died (And no, he died of natural causes). Try to guess who got his job, Just last name.

I forgot to telll you that you don't need any cars for your Br85. It was only used to help trains uphill and downhill. Höllental means hell valley and is located in the black forest (Schwarzwald). So... you can say, it was sidetracked.

I think you are only referring to its late Bundesbahn days. The situation was different between the 1930s and the electrification of the Höllenthalbahn. See an old video I made on the topic here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZmpaHSbqtpmgtE. There is a link to a Bundesbahn teaching video where you see it in action in the description for that video too. Märklin also released a Höllenthalbahn set in the early 1990s to go with the loco. Take care and keep the comments coming 🙏

I enjoy your videos and am also a lover of older Märklin models, those of my childhood dreams. I am hoping that you can help me. I recently purchas the branchline set 2858 with the v36239 diesel switcher. I also purchased a 3366 electric heavy loco. Both ar in like new condition. They are unlike the older loco models which can be serviced by removing a screw attaching the body. The included instructions do not indicate how to remove the body shells. Since they are highly detailed models I am loath to fiddle about trying to remove the shells. Could you please provide insight on how to remove them safely so that i can service them? Much appreciated. JTW

I've got a question concerning the model of the BR 24 shown at your video at 12:40 - is it a modified version by you or is it/was it really produced that way by Märklin with a gap between the boiler and the chassis/cylinders opening a perspective?

Nice and interesting video, I really appreciate the old Bundesbahn photos. I would agree with Jenswalter. It really seems, that the loco-housing of the 24 058 does not sit correctly on the chassis. Normally there is no gap between boiler and chassis. Maybe you would like to check.@@The3rdRail

Fleischmann obviously copied the 4000 tinplate coach when they came out with their tinplate coach in the 50's they also copied a few other pieces.
