In Game 4 of the 1984 of the NLCS, future Hall of Fame Pitcher Lee Smith gave up a Walk-Off-Home-Run to Steve Garvey; but Cubs fans didn’t hate Smith. And Smith went on to become one of the, if not the greatest Closers of All Time.

Right, I believe Leon Durham became the official scapegoat for losing that series, not Lee Smith.

The game of Baseball can be very unkind and unfair sometimes. Look how Red Sox fans, and the media treated Bill Buckner after he committed the error he committed in Game 6 of the World Series. Despite what a tough, dependable player Buckner was, he was looked upon as the GOAT of the 1986 World Series; and that was very unfair to Bill Buckner.
