With a sad heart I sit here watching your videos.... not for lack of admiration, but yet one of happiness. My father, an AVID elk hunter had a massive stroke last night. After being by his side all night I finally retreated home to take care of the pets and such. I found my only solace in sitting down for 20 minutes or so before returning to the hospital. Funny.... I found myself looking up any video (of yours in particular) to rheminess on my father's love of hunting elk. Me, being the avid Columbia blacktail "deer magnet", have yet to get an elk. I think your videos have given me the confidence to try and fulfill my father's dream of a Roosevelt bull. Lol, any size will do Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts. Keep up what you do. It really DOES change lives and ways of thinking. Thank you - Todd VanZon

That was more than just a nugget that Shannon just dropped, that was a key to the Roosevelt Elk treasure chest. My heart was broken when I saw Corey miss yesterday and then Donnie twice today. I know how much heart, effort and time that you two, the camera guys and Shannon and Corey put into this hunt. One usually learns more from failures than success, but I view this one as a success in that you two got into elk and have shot opportunities, just weird things happen at that moment that shot goes low, behind or hits a twig, another hunter takes advantage, etc... I vote that you come back for Round 3, in hopes that you can put everything you learned this year and even the year before together and I have faith that when that moment happens again you will connect.
@cjm9185 жыл бұрын
That’s incredibly tough hunting. You did prove the theory of how to aggressively hunt them. You also showed how tight the “windows” of opportunity are. That was really fun watching, but I also hit that low of disappointment. Carry on gentlemen!

This level of skill, experience and tenacity yet the bull still sees another sunrise. That is hunting. The benefit of a film crew became evident and gave you peace of mind that the arrow only grazed the bull. Still, an effort was put in to ensure the bull was not wounded and bedded or down and lost. You can hold your heads high. Carry on.

Today I have learned hunting in Oregon can be a real challenge. Getting high does not always produce positive results when hunting in high places such as Oregon. Bad Joke....Thanks for posting the video. Hunting Elk is challenging and not for the faint of heart. Having a good team is important to a successful hunt. The time you spent in recovery speaks volumes to the integrity of true sportsman.

Love to hear/see the adaptation of Corey's bugling over the course of the OR hunt. This episode in particular showcased different phrasing and pitch to mimic the style of the elk in this area. It was actually quite brilliant and I got a real kick picking out all the subtle sounds and combinations. Great work. I guess that's what you get when a 37X world elk calling champion steps into different piece of woods.
@ronaldderose41635 жыл бұрын
Absolutely the most difficult thing to do in hunting is moving to a new area. Elk act differently in different habitat and respond to pressure in different ways. Your experience here parallels my experiences in Western Washington closely although I was hunting with a muzzle loader. Great series I look forward to more in the future.

Tough luck Donny I live in Northwest Oregon and have been hunting with my bow for the last four years and never seen a bull during season. This year my wife killed a bull on opening day after hunting for the first time with a bow. I didn't know rather to be excited or proud.
