So does Donorbox charge 1.5% + .30 cents and then also the 2.9% + .30 cents for a PayPal transaction? So that would be a total of 4.4% + .60 cents per donation? As you can see I'm confused. If this is correct, why not just use PayPal? Hopefully I am no understanding this correctly. Can you please clarify that for me? Thanks!

Great question! Short answer. PayPal as a stand-alone product does not have as many features as Donorbox or other tools for receiving online donations. PayPal has continued to add more functionality over the last year, making it more competitive with solutions like Donorbox. Long answer. PayPal is a good option to get started. It allows donors to make recurring monthly donations and ask them to cover the processing fees. Previously, if you wanted that functionality, Donorbox or another tool was needed. I prefer to use the PayPal mobile phone credit card readers for in person events. Here are some features that Donorbox offers over PayPal. - More customization of the giving form. For example, you could add a field for donors to select a t-shirt size, add more custom $ amounts than PayPal allows, or change the colors. - Supports Apple Pay and Android Pay. - Supports weekly, monthly, and annual recurring donations (PayPal only offers monthly). - Lower fees for donations made via ACH bank transfers and no fees over cut off thresholds (See calculation below). - Links to giving campaigns can be customized to phrases and words (PayPals is random) - Donor history (PayPal may offer some variant of this?). - Customize the emailed acknowledgement that donors receive with your own content. - Add fundraising goals, donor walls, and crowdfunding. - Add compliance, legal and GDPR terms. - Integrate your own social media channels into the giving process. - Integrate with other applications, text giving, and CRM tools (for additional monthly costs). Per the Donorbox pricing page today, the most an organization should pay per donation using Donorbox and a required Payment Processor is a combined fee of 4.4% + $0.30 for credit cards. 501c3 organizations will pay a combined fee of 3.7% +$0.30 for credit card donations. Donations from bank accounts (ACH), even if the organization is not a 501c3, incur a combined fee of 2.3%. However, the Donorbox fee of 1.5% is capped at $25 for ACH transactions and the 0.8% fee is capped at $5. What does this mean? 1) Any amount over $1,666.67 is not charged the Donorbox transaction fee. $1,666.67 * 1.5% = $25. 2) Any amount over $625 is not charged the ACH fee. $625 * 0.8% = $5. Pick the tool that meets your organization’s needs!
