Perfect for me. This is my fourth year as a charity cyclist for Tour De Pink, Philly to Delaware this year. My fund raising is dragging and the advice is just what I needed. Riding is my way of finding peace. Partnering with the amazing community of Young Survival Coalition is my way of giving back. The survivors are a wonderful pool of subject matter experts that support, guide and educate each other on the options of work through living with cancer. Up till now I didn't need to say anything out loud...but my new life is away from the corporate structure of my past. I'm ready to do that : ) Thanks!!

Great interview. I will say though, much as I hate to, that I have been an unemployed fundraiser for long streches since the recession hit. In my medium sized Rust Belt city we have a ton of nonprofits and a high level of foundation and individual philanthropy, but we also have a dearth of midlevel positions. Lots at the senior and entry levels. Thankfully, I finally found a great job, but I had several miserable years of under/unemployment.

Oakland School for the Arts needs to watch this. One of their teachers told me my donation to their school wasn’t welcomed and that they would refund me before subsequently insulting me on social media, so I asked for my money back. I gave my donation instead to Ronald McDonald House Charities. They were happy to have my donation. Lesson from this is say thank you to people who donate to your organization and don’t tell them their donation wasn’t welcomed.
