What I have got from the first ted talk video, is to be a good listener, don't be stiff. I would say just be yourself and talk to the person like you are making a new friend. Building relationships is important and after they are done talking, start with icebreakers and ask questions

This was horrific. 6:53 was an ambush. I’m not rich, I’m actually struggling, but as I live in a third world country in a poverty stricken area and am obviously foreign, most of the people I run into day to day consider me rich. If someone started firing all those questions at me I’d run a mile. If anyone asks where I live I always lie. I get particularly nervous about my daughter’s school. I don’t want her kidnapped. Making those assumptions is atrocious. You don’t know they’re not up to their eyeballs in debt and are only still living there because the house won’t sell and they’ve taken in a lodger too make ends meet. And then she says she gets payed to teach nerds to talk to people “like they’re people”. There’s more than one way to go about alienating and dehumanizing someone. I literally skip meals on a regular when I’ve no food in and I haven’t got the energy to face the beggars outside and run the gauntlet to the corner shop. And when I do give, I don’t feel good about it; I feel like I’ve been mugged, and I’ve given out invites for future muggings.

@altlover853 жыл бұрын
@@bibianacapuskova3033 Happy to help! While I came to nonprofits/fundraising in a roundabout way (my undergraduate degree is in Art History) if I could do it all again, I would look for a Development Associate job (basically an office assitant for the fundraising office) and see how I liked that work. If you can't find a job in the fundraising office, I'd advise researching companies/nonprofits where you would like to work and getting an entry level job. For example, I started my nonprofit journey doing telefundraising for a ballet company, got hired full time in their box office, and then focused on helping the box office and development departments better understand each other. Hope this helps!

@@altlover85 wow, it definitely helps, thank u. I'm in a position where i need to plan out my future and decide what actually i am gonna do. Recently i was kinda confused and desperate which path to take, which direction to go in my life... so thanks a lot i really appreciate every advise😊
