Classic song. The performance is somewhat subdued. Gayle's voice is wonderful as always. Neil Young also plays harmonica while wearing a harness to keep his hands free, Springsteen too some times. Donovan was huge in the sixties. He dropped "Catch the Wind" in 1965. It quickly became a top forty hit and made him a star. He took his sound in new directions as that decade unfolded and dropped a number of singles that defined flower power psychedelic pop -- "Sunshine Superman", "Mellow Yellow", "Season of the Witch", "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", "Jennifer Juniper", "Hurdy Gurdy Man", "Atlantis" and more. "Atlantis" was my favorite song when I was five. I think I was captivated by the idea of going beneath the ocean. These days I'm much more fond of "Wear Your Love Like Heaven". Donovan cut lots of playlist songs for me. He was also there at the beginnings of Led Zeppelin. Then session guitarist Jimmy Page played on "Sunshine Superman" (1966) and "Hurdy Gurdy Man" (1968) features Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham from a not yet formed Led Zeppelin. Bonham's drumming is unmistakable.

Nice Donovan retrospective Mike, "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" is one of my favorites of his too. I also didn't know the backstory of Page et al. playing on his earlier hits in their pre-Zep days, very interesting indeed.

I always loved Donovan. And Crystal Gayle has such a beautiful voice, May I suggest another singer with a beautiful voice. Mary Black singing songs like Bright Blue Rose, Thorn Upon The Rose etc. Preferably singing live.

This was a little weird for me. I used to go to a church in Indiana, and I remember that Crystal Gayle performed and that she was really nice and looked like a movie star or Cher. I just remember her talking to us in the nursey. I had a funeral that brought back this memory recently. I had no idea that she was a former music star? (if that makes sense lol). We went to a mixed church, so she fit right in. It was like half gospel choir/ half rock music lmao. I'm sure it was a down period for her, but I just remember that she really liked gospel and singing positive music. My mom said that she was big in the 70s . Ray Carter
