In my first week at college '69, I met a Jennifer who stayed at a dorm called Juniper Hall. We dated, drove around in my Camaro. Fell in love. I had an 8-track Donovan tape and I would sing this to her... Still do. We've been together over 48 years now.

My mom had a sweet modified version for me, she’d sing it esp at bedtime whenever I asked.🥰🎵🛌 As an adult to hear Donovan perform the real deal on vinyl (and so beautifully ending on a high note in French, too) whisked me back to happy childhood memories & I was impressed evermore by my mom’s “riff.” May music & talented souls add brightness to the world forever.❤

Britain's Donovan inducted to Rock Hall of Fame (finally !) CLEVELAND-Donovan, a folksy British singer-songwriter once labeled "the new Dylan," has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Overlooked by voters in previous years, Donovan has finally been saluted for his accomplishments as a gifted lyricist and musician. Born Donovan Leitch, he blended poetry into folk songs and scored a string of hits in the 1960s with "Sunshine Superman," "Mellow Yellow" and "Hurdy Gurdy Man."

Interesting analogy. What I do know is that the song was about Jennifer Boyd, who owned a boutique named 'JUNIPER' and that is probably the reason for Jennifer Juniper. However, I'm not sure if the name of the Boutique, Juniper, was derived from the French for 'I'm not afraid' Je n'ai peur. Very interesting though!

Never saw anyone get more mileage out of 3 or 4 basic folk chords as Donovan. I' d give my left nut to have written something this beautiful...or 'Catch the Wind.' Is anyone-- except the Beatles, maybe-- more of the spirit of the 60s than Donovan?
7 жыл бұрын
Evidently, you haven't listened to his many albums or checked out his published music which is anything but simple to play.
@busstopbilly7 жыл бұрын
Evidently you are a small thang, who needs to put someone down to feel superior. Father issues...didn't get enough love as a child? Didn't say a thing about "simple to play." And at 67, I was probably humming Sunshine Superman before you were born, compadre. Self-righteious putz....you might have the chords down, and maybe the pickin', but you've missed the spirit of the man completely.

My father lost the "name" game with my mom, in 1968...quite surprising considering my father as I knew him. She wanted "Lynda" with a Y, because she liked how Lyndon Baines Johnson's name looked on TV in 1967.68. So random. I secretly wish Dad had won, and I was named after a song title...far more romantic.! Ironically, Donovan has a daughter named Linda as well :)

Bob Eubanks (The Newly Wed Game MC) was Donovan's promoter for a show in the US in the mid 60's. Donovan demanded that the AC be shut off during the show. You couldn't hear it but he had to be an ahole. Eubanks told Donovan's father to go out and tell everyone Donovan wanted the AC shut off. Donovan went on with the AC going .

@martynh54107 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree that the very beginning music that fades out is part of the intro of "Year of the Cat". Interesting because this video is obviously from the 60's and Al Stewart recorded his song in 1976..... Looks like this is a later video that fades into the older black and white one with Donovan.

Don't knock the Don, just because he embraced the hippy thing so completely. I learnt how to fingerpick (clawhammer!) by listening to his records and watching his technique on telly (mainly 'Catch the Wind'). As he also taught J Lennon and P McCartney I feel I got good, though remote, instruction. Good luck, mate!
