This is good stuff. It just so happens I have a 2005 Canyon regular cab I bought for $900. Threw in a $400 5.3 and a stock 2000 silverado wiring harness. I made a rear turbo kit with a $190 eBay gt45 and it ran 11.1@131 last week at SCT. These trucks are heavy. Mine is 3400lbs plus me. The rear end is a stock 8.0 with a 7.5 mini spool.

Matt, you may already know about this, but I found out a new, (for me) way to save an engine. You tie your computer, MicroSquirt, MSG, or other management system, into a fuel pressure switch, so when fuel pressure drops too much, it will shut the engine down. This is to prevent going lean at full boost, or in high r.p.m. applications. If you already know about this, maybe it will help somebody else. On the video, this is perfect. You capsulized everything in one short video, which has given me everything I need. I understand you have at one time or another, covered everything you talked about in this video, and if I had been smart enough to take notes, and keep them all in one place, I wouldn't have needed this. I can guarantee I took notes this time. Thank you, from the bottom of my rather shallow wallet.

Matt... Couple quick questions and then a observation... Have the "secret" heads been flowed ? If so...Do they flow more than than the stock intake/throttle body ? Now for the "observation"... The "bottleneck" is ALWAYS the bottleneck... Does not mater if it is a 8000hp nitro engine or a oilfield production facility. You have to identify what the bottleneck (restriction) is. If the heads are only part of it... You will only gain that part. I am really glad to see you do this experiment as I think it will help people to understand a engine is only a air pump. If you can fill the cylinders with more air (and fuel) by what ever means... The result will ALWAYS be more power. The really interesting part of all of this... Is when you are restricted to a certain turbo/blower etc. (because of cost or racing class etc.) and you increase air flow into the engine by better flowing heads/intake/cam etc. you can then "move" the efficiency of the turbo or blower back into the "sweet" spot so you can gain even more power at a lower boost level. Lotsa fun to be had playing with all of this... Can't wait to see all of the results from your experiments.

I was thinking a minute ago about hood dumps. If you have the exhaust pipe run fully out of the car, no exhaust gets back under the hood. That's good. But, if instead of running the exhaust pipe through that hole in the hood, you made a tunnel down from the hood that surrounded the exhaust pipe, the exhausting gases would creat a vortex and vacuum hot gases from under your hood. You could turn your exhaust pressure into a vacuum for your engine heat with a couple inches of metal.

Quick thought. Matt could you add the aftermarket sloppy cam info to the cam page on the sloppy wiki. That might help some of us that have and do read the wiki. And I am in on seing how the ported heads change the power curve. NOT MAX HP!Because goals! So many say more air/fuel more hp. But do not consider goals!If my daily driver needs to be spun to 7k+ for a modification to show up that's not my goal. Now if it adds power from 2k to 6k now those are right in my goals! Just my small gripe on see posted everywhere and hear on podcast's!

Sloppy Mechanics Matt, Being in the seattle area, I think you need to do a pump/meth setup for sure. We might have 2 places that have E85 out of the pump in western washington. So a lot of people spray a shit ton of meth on pump gas. I run two 7gph and one 3gph nozzles on my 2.4L Talon making aprx 700chp. I'm doing this on a single 450, stock rail, and 6an feed from the tank and FIC1000cc injectors. Pump and injectors are maxed at this level. Like, 110% injector duty. And I think I want to up the 7's to 10's. Keeps liking more meth lol! And we only get 92oct here in WA.
@SloppyMechanics7 жыл бұрын
then you just add meth and go to town, i have used pump and meth many many times, i could easily add a meth kit to this combo for sure it would be a beast

Can somebody please explain to me how running super rich can give you more power? Like tuned diesel trucks and they used to leave clouds of fuel vapor behind F1 cars during qualifying when they used to let them have a different engine and tune for the qualifying lap. In F1 racing they call all the extra fuel vapor / smoke left behind "fluff". I get that more fuel cools the charge better but then isn't the air fuel ratio way too rich to run well?

i have 862 heads that are stock, i am putting on a set of ported 862 that are the same thing, that is the true test, stock head and then the ported version, installing a 243 after this one would be unfair, as i think you know, just clearing it all up for anyone who wants to know, i dont think ill be installing a stock 243 and then a ported 243 one after the other on this setup
