@loc power Nah, Lakers were good enough to win that series but one of Pau Gasol's fellow Lakers enjoyed some alone time with his girl. Gasol was so out of it in that series. Remember Phil Jackson slapping him on the chest to get some fire in him going, but Pau was mentally devastated knowing one of his teammates fxxked his girl. With Pau not into the game mentally, it destroyed the team chemistry on court. He was a huge part of the offense with Kobe at that time. You could tell watching him play in that series, he wasn't focused. Even Andrew Bynum made a statement about trust issues among themselves in the locker room. If Pau had been locked in, we probably would've had Kobe vs LeBron in Finals.

Magic, Kareem, Jordan, Bird, Hakeem, Shaq, Bryant, Lebron, all have had amazing performances in the playoffs, but what Dirk did in 2011 may have been the best. The Mavericks were picked against every series, they came back in the 4th quarter in nearly every win, Dirk was double and triple teamed a lot and never missed a clutch shot. I'm not a Mavericks fan, but this was a performance for the ages.

04 Pistons... each of then5 starters were considered average at best whereas everyone knew Dirk was a superstar... just didn't have the team to do it! They said... Ben Wallace- A great defensive player but has no hint if offense Rasheed- Talented but a troublemaker who destroyed team chemistry Tayshaun- A quiet kid that could shoot and defend but wasn't anointed when drafted late first round. Rip- A stat stuffer who didn't know how to win Chauncey- A shoot first PG who had a bad attitude What they proved after the won... Big Ben- One of the best defensive players in the modern era and s great team and locker room leader. Rasheed- A talented player that CREATES locker room chemistry Tayshaun- One if the best wing defenders in the league Rip- Became one of the best SG's in the league. Chauncey- Showed he could Pass and Shoot at a high level. Helped lead the Pistons with his presence and leadership! If that's not the most underdog team in history then Idk what is! No one gave them a chance against Lakers saying Lakers would win 4-0 or 4-1...Detroit won 4-1 and proved they were the best!

@Swizzy-D9 жыл бұрын
Demian Haki Greatest European before that, i'd agree with you however, its a bit disrespectful to Drazen Petrovic, one of the GREATEST shooters EVER! Reggie Miller said that himself and so did Steve Smith. Had Arvydas Sabonis player in the NBA during his prime and not in Europe he would have been a top 10 player in the league. How many centres at that time were shooting 3's at a high clip?.....0....he was doing it a rate a guard would. Dirk did win MVP so that puts him over them but had both of those guys managed to play their primes in the NBA (Petrovic death/Sabonis Late NBA career start) this convo might be a little different.

I'm a huge Blazers fan, I always had this feeling that the BROY game 4 comeback was a huge part of what ended up being the Maverick's run... I saw flashes of that comeback in every series after the Blazers the Mavericks played, the comeback against the Lakers game 1 that sucked the air out of them, comeback against the Thunder that sucked the air out of them, and the punishing game 2 comeback against the heat that humiliated them for celebrating... nah, the Blazers didn't 'teach' them that, but I think they modeled it, and I followed the Mavs all the way to the championship that year, rooting allthe way, after they killed my blazers. I was thinking what everyone else was thinking, that the Blazers comeback in game 4 was just a sign of the Mav's coming collapse, as always... but when they stepped on our throats game 5 and 6 I knew something different was up.

This had nothing too do with the heat. The Mavs blew threw the west..they put out Portlant, LA, OKC, and Miami...that wasn't luck. They were very good "team"..that happened to be playing "great" basketball at the perfect time. Being a MFFL, I will never forget this run for as long as I live, it was a pleasure to watch this team play. #mavsup

Richard M They beat Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Lebron James in one playoff run. It's not exactly the 1989 Pistons beating Larry, Michael and Magic but that's still very solid.

+VancouverChokers I'd like to point out that Magic and Byron Scott both missed the Finals in 1989. And I think Larry Bird missed the first round as well. If you ask me, even though they came up short, 1988 Pistons run was more impressive. Bulls in the 2nd round Celtics in the Conference Finals Lakers in the Finals (3-2 lead) All the MVPs from 1984-1988 (Bird-3, Magic-1, Jordan-1), and the two franchises that had won every title over the previous three years. Those three teams were loaded with players who had won awards from 1980 to regular season 1988. DPOYs and 6th Men of the Year, and Finals MVPs, and to think they were one Joe Dumars shot from winning Game 6 and the title. The 1988 Pistons are in contention with the 1969 Lakers as one of the best teams to not win the title.

Not gonna lie but when I was watching the Portland vs Dallas series, there were a lot of doubts in my mind but the Mavericks found a way to pull through and I was very impressed by them. God you gotta love Dirk the constant professional and amazing player that he is just awesome. Really hope he gets another one before his career is over.

Nothing will ever surpass the emotional peak my Dallas Mavericks reached in 2011...not even a 2014 San Antonio Spurs championship team that could arguably be the best of all NBA champions this year. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mavs' run in 2011, but I've got to hand it to the newly-crowned Spurs this year. Here's to both of the best Texas had to offer in 2011 and in 2014! Congrats for showing the NBA how team basketball should be played!

As a wade fan I could say it should have been a sweep. Leads late in game 2 and 4. Lost them and the games both. I could blame James for not coming tru. I could come up with any excuse for Miami on why they should have won...but, nope. The better team won. The team that wanted it more won. It's 2019 and much respect for the mavericks. 👏

Dirk: "This is for the Mavs" Kidd: "This is for the Nets" Marion: "This is for the Suns" Peja: "This is for the Kings" Basically the team was carrying the hopes and dreams of the people that helped them along the way. Vindication.

@@allenxavier6073 Would it be OK for the likes of Kobe or Magic and Larry Bird swap teams? No, of course it wouldn't. The thing with the players is that once you win the title in "your kingdom" it feels extra special. LeBron already did that in 2016. And then botched the roster so much, he fucked off to LA to star in Space Jam 2 and win another title there. I don't know what's funnier: The fact LBJ left Cleveland in the muck until this year with his decisions or the fact that he did THE EXACT SAME MISTAKES in Los Angeles

The trades, the free agent signings, the draft picks, the eye for talent and seeing the potential in the young guys and not including them in future trade packages. Your hard work is astounding. Thank you Mark for an amazing hire when so many other teams tried to steal him from Nike but you were the one to convince him to leave. Thank you for the complete front office transformation as well.
