The animation is a little weird at first, but I've grown to love it. It reminds me of a toy figure I had in the 70's, Matchbox's M.A.C. adventures, Mobile Action Command. I had the helicopter and the boat sets. The guys could only move their shoulder, knee, and hip joints. The barest minimum of "action", but a great toy. You've brought back memories.

But to really pull it off, add in 3 levels of rogue, and then take Scout (also in XGE). Skirmisher will allow you to use your reaction to move up to half your movement when an enemy gets within 5 feet of you...and it dose *not* provoke an op attack. (Plus, if you use a shortsword, it has the 'versatile' tag, so you get your sneak dice if the conditions are met.)

Currently playing as a Way of the Drunken Master Hill Dwarf Monk called Torbera Staggerpaw and thoroughly enjoying it. Little tough as doesn't start with great Dexterity but planning on giving the feats "Dwarven Fortitude" and "Durable" to her. Dwarven fortitude allows her to heal up using a hit die + constitution modifier as part of a dodge action (which she can take as a bonus action thanks to patient defense by spending 1 ki point) and using Durable so the minimum roll she can get on her hit die is twice her constitution modifier (which, after getting these 2 feats would be +4 so a minimum roll of an 8 on a D8) allowing her to automatically heal 12hp as a bonus action while dodging and still being able to attack twice. If I could get a periapt of wound closure that "roll" would be doubled (from 8 to 16) so after adding the con mod it would heal 20HP as a bonus action. So I basically created a short, unarmored, agile fighter with quite a meaty healing factor. That's right, I created Wolverine in D&D. My group had a battle royal were we leveled our characters up to level 10 my character started with 105 HP and she was eventually taken out being the second to last character to be defeated after tanking 3 high level spells, 1 of which was a critical hit. I calculated that she probably ended up taking at least 170hp damage. The only frustrating thing was she was too easy to hit with a AC of 15 (as I sacrificed levelling up Dex in favor of getting those feats) and found it pretty difficult to hit (again because of the lack of dex), but it was still a pretty fun experiment.

I made a monk character I was really proud of and was excited to play, and according to our DM, had a big narrative impact on the story. I had just gotten to level three and picked up my monastic tradition when our DM decided he was bored of the story and made the executive decision for it to end. :(

I've learned something out of monks through DMing a monk only adventure. If you want to kill a (at my known moment) level 6 monk, I recommend avoiding larger and tankier creatures, and instead, separate the monk from major AOE characters, and roll with large groups of small (preferably flying) smaller creatures. I learned this when I managed to have a level 6 monk fall in a cave, and go up against (get this) 8 bats. The monk managed to only kill 3, as though the bats were only nipping at the monk, due to his inability to escape reliably and the fact he couldnt hit any bats, he went from roughly 40 HP to the afterlife after around 11 rounds.

I count pugilists as monks as well, cause even though they lack the movies kung fu, they still use mostly their agility and balance to punch rather than sheer strenght, they need discipline, attack unarmed and has many features that go all together with the monk features.
@underhaykids68616 жыл бұрын
An Elf Monks might as well as well just have their own class option because they are as close to ninja's as D&D will come, i mean seriously if you've ever played one you know that they will devastate anything and EVERYTHING that they come across. (Wood elves work best but Drow and high elves are still excellent (Elf Rogues are good for ninja's too but shadow-Monks are hard to beat plus if the monk has high dexterity then they will still have good Armor class)) Also I don't actually play elf monks that often because it no fun on account of them being to overpowered, I tend to differ to human monks because the +1 to everything is just amazing. However it is still not very much fun because if you have a flexible DM like i do then he lets me re-roll stat-dice if it's single digits number even with the appropriate race bonuses so my monk are general extremely OP anyways because of that and i'm generally just ridiculously lucky with the die for example; The other night when i was making one i rolled these; 18, 19, 17, 16,15, 11. I'm serious THAT is what I rolled (no re-rolls)and with the human +1 to everything my human monk was still extremely OP. My advice to you is that you give your monk a flaw like 'shy' or 'antisocial' because then if you play it right then it will compromise their OPness so it just makes for much better gameplay besides if you have a flexible DM (like me) then they will normally let you remove your one of characters flaw later on if you give them two at the beginning so the monk will still be extremely OP at later lvs (the way this works is when the DM says that where able to overcome their fear or shortcoming and they can they use an inspiration check and a wisdom throw to see if they are still scared of that thing or if they have that flaw for example; My shy Elf Monk has just fought off a huge hoard of enemy's BY TALKING TO THEM and making them drop their weapons, (they would have a disadvantage on this because their shy) the DM might say that they should roll to see if they have overcome their shy characteristic.(If they did extra well like 5-7 over the DC or if it was just a 20{however if they roll a 1 (or another extremely low number like 2 or 3) then that would be a critical miss and they probably would be even more reclusive then usual for a few days})

Tip: Choose Quarterstaff for your simple weapon. It's a loophole to the "not two-handed" requirement of monk weapons with Versatile. It's the only simple weapon that can deal 1d8 and is not a greatsword (or whatever that great-something simple weapon is).

Spears also deal 1d8 through the versatile property and have the added benefit of having the thrown option. Technically this makes Spears the best Monk weapons.
