my partner is Filipina, it is a thing. edit: for context - she can't swim, none of her sisters can either. I've met loads of Filipina women that can't swim. Depending on when (in time) and where a girl grew up in the Philippines and the families style of conservatism - not being able to ride a bike, drive a car and (surprisingly) swim is definitely a thing.

In high school PE, I told the teacher I couldn’t swim “because I’m black and black people have dense bones, making it harder to float.” I’m half Jamaican, half Mexican, I don’t really look black, mostly ethnically ambiguous tbh, but that’s the story I stuck with and instead of arguing with my dumb ass, he assigned two kids that COULD swim to swim next to me when I did the treading-water test lmao.
