So basically, to learn a language, you must be persistent, have realistic goals, start with simple general terminology, make your learning material easy to understand and be serious about it.

No procrastination here. If I want to do something, I usually do that. Also, I'm an early bird. Get up at like 5-6 am without an alarm clock. Though I sometimes get a little lost listening to music or watch videos, too. But I also don't do the regular vocab or grammar learning, so I don't get frustrated. Overambitious plans? Nah. But I practise everyday. It is fun after all. You make learning look exhausting and not fun at all. Funny translations? Nope. I have no learning sheets, but if I had, I had probably do the same that you did. Learning too complicated things? Depends on how you learn it. All I say is Kanji (Chinese characters in Japanese writing) I don't do do too much either. I'm getting the feeling it's about your way of learning that makes all of these problems.

Yes, I make all these mistakes. Having said that, I know only one method which really works (and works quickly): this "method" consist on living among people who speak the Language that I want to learn. When you have no way to satisfy your needs but referring to them in the foreign Language, then you are "forced" to learn it... Probably one of the first word that the immigrants learn, as they are in Germany (for example), is "Geld"... When I was in London, as an Italian worker, I remember an Italian friend of mine that, although his english was very bad, could *well understand* the phrase: "if you don't work, you don't get money"... :-)
@DeutschDirekt8 жыл бұрын
Small point of grammar from 'Grammar Nazi' to another. In English, you don't 'do' mistakes, you 'make' mistakes. You're welcome! (Subtle sarcasm just for you) p.s. You actually made the same 'mistake' in your video about being a Grammar Nazi! (2:59, approximately!)
@maboroshi19866 жыл бұрын
i find this happens with the languages i've seen, make and do are the same word. "faire" in french doesn't differentiate which is fun with my french friends who constantly mix them up and irish is similar, "Déan" can mean both make and do which occasionally drops into hiberno-english. another one i often see in my french friends is the mixing up of "this" and "that", french not really making the distinction between ce and ca the way english does with this and that. is that also the same in german? i often see german speakers only say "this".

I find that learning a language with another language doesn't work for me. Instead of using english as the catalyst for Japanese. Thumps up to start studying early morning after breakfast 😆 I am facing the same obviously with German and Japanese since I study both... I keep saying I will do this and that and ends up doing nothing .... but there are sometimes where I do really study especially at office a lot of time depressed of work and getting bored so I start to learn few things for entertainment like new vocabulary or daily used sentences... the rest I do remember them from the class or because I did it wrong at the first time and then I will have it sticked in my memory :D

Do you recommend any method to learn the German articles? ^^
@etvdzs8 жыл бұрын
+Amr Arnaout If you mean learning the noun genders, you really do just have to do your best to learn the gender along with each noun. There are various rules that people sometimes recommend (e.g. nouns ending in -er are usually masculine), but these have so many exceptions and are so difficult to remember that they are actually worse than nothing, in my experience anyway. If you mean learning the cases (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive), any halfway decent grammar book should explain these, although it still takes a lot of practice to get fluent with them.

You can still buy it in the shops here, but it's not very common, most people use other painkillers such as paracetamol.
