Flat peaches are called wild peaches here. They're very popular in Europe and are often described as a juicier and sweeter version of the regular peach.

I find that they have no sourness, while regular peaches usually have a sourness to them. Even the sweetest, most ripe regular peaches have more tartness m, compared to the donut peach.

They’ve become super common in the U.K. with both white and yellow fleshed varieties available. I’ve found that some can be bland and mushy while others can be very juicy, sweet and flavourful. Edit: my favourite is also the white fleshed donut/flat peach!

I have a 4 year old White Donut Peach tree that finally produced so much fruit this year. It is so beautiful when it blooms and just as beautiful now with the large oddly shaped fruit. My neighbor admires it so much. Peach trees are not uncommon in our area (Corpus Christi, Texas), but I had never seen, much less heard of this peach. I was at Home Depot one day and decided to buy one and here I am today. It is probably 10 to 12 feet tall and 10 feet wide.

When I first saw Saturn peaches, I wasn’t impressed with them, they looked like they wouldn’t amount to much, but how wrong I was! I bought some Saturn peach trees, and those peaches are absolutely the best peaches I’ve ever had. So juicy, so sweet, far superior to standard peaches! Even the ones I had to pick way too early bc we had a rat problem, even those, slightly green, not at all ripe, were sweet, and so juicy!

I live in the UK and I've seen them in the mediteranean for decades. Also those crappy apricot coloured peaches in Spain. But flat peaches didn't start appearing in the UK till about the last 10 years or so. They only got cheap and popular in the last 5 or so I think. It's weird as I am Chinese and I would see them depicted in traditional art and vases, also hear them referred to in mythical Chinese TV shows. I actually though they were mythical until I saw them in real life.

I first encountered donut peaches about 25 years ago, at a Ralphs. I asked the lady at the counter how best to eat them, and she recommended submerging them in milk, cream, or half & half, and going at them with a spoon. She was so right. The dairy blends so well with the peach, and after you've cut chunks of peach with the spoon, some of the juice mixes with the dairy, giving you a nice, refreshing drink afterwards.

You can peel the skin quite easily if you score it and blanch it for a few seconds in boiling water.
@kistuszek
@kistuszek 4 жыл бұрын
No need for hot water either. You just need to catch them at the right time. If it is overripe the skin will be to weak to peal, but at that point i dont like them anyway. And if it is too firm yet the skin will not part from the flesh. But when they are properly ripe peeling them in 3 - 4 pieces is not hard.

Cort Pendu Platt apple is described as moderately flattened, though it is most notable for being the ~latest bloomer (so spring frosts aren't a problem, though apples are rather late in general and rarely suffer compared to stone fruit) and having a really tiny stalk so that the fruit seem appressed to the branches. It is not super productive, and I have never seen one in stores. Some claim it has been around since Roman times.

I love donut peaches! It's most of what we had for peaches when I lived in Morocco. I haven't seen a flat nectarine but I want one now! It is been years since I have been able to find just a regular ripe Peach they are all as hard as softballs and as we know peaches do not ripen once they are picked they merely get soft. I love peaches and I could eat them everyday in the summer but where do I find ripe peaches in Maine. Growing up as a kid the peaches in the grocery store will always ripe and juicy and yummy and the nectarines a little drier we're still ripe!

I love the donut peaches and definitely prefer them over any standard peach or nectarine. P.S. the donut peach is sort of a free stone, as you cut it you can see that no (or very little) flesh still remains on the pit. On the normal one you cut you can see that there is still fruit flesh on the pit, it doesn't cut cleanly. Also a big advantage to the donut ones as you won't make quite the mess and have the juice all over your arms.
