As a 23 GR86 M/T owner I can agree with how beautiful the driving experience is of this car. It’s not the fastest, but the amount of communication you get through your hands, and the seat is magical. I drove a BMW 330i for a couple weeks while my GR was in the shop and missed it every day. Yes, the BMW was faster, and more comfortable, but for me driving fun is about connectedness with the car you’re driving and the GR86 delivers it in spades. If you’re thinking about it, buy it, because who knows how long gas only, rear wheel drive sports cars are going to be around for.

The 4A-GE engine was also put in the MR2. The AW11 series MR2 was so fun to drive. I loved the t-tops as well. Man I miss that car. The shifter was the coolest I’ve ever seen. It was a little slightly banana shaped shifter.. Super short throws, buttery smooth, and the way they set the center console was perfect. You could literally rest your forearm on the center tunnel, and shift with just your wrist.

I love my mr2. My manual trans one doesn’t run anymore but I daily my automatic and it’s an amazing car. Everything the 86 does it does better. No body roll and gives you more of that “sport” feeling, weighs less too in Japan than the 86. If Takumi went against a first gen mr2 with an equal skills driver either NA or supercharged he would get demolished. Also that snap oversteer everyone brings up with mr2’s really only affects the 2nd gen.
@raptrz_ Жыл бұрын
As a GR86 owner, I can say first hand that I absolutely love the car. It's very fun to drive, and it's surprisingly pretty quick with this new engine considering the weight of the car. The area I'm in doesn't have many twisty type roads, but I can tell it takes corners flawlessly. The suspension is very stiff since it is basically a track focused car, so you can feel every little bump, lol. Drifting the car feels very good as well. It's very predictable to control during a drift. The 86 has more of a tail happy suspension setup (which I love) compared to the brz, which is more center grounded. The cons with the car for me is the fake sound that gets pumped into the car, which I had to unplug after a week owning because it was loud and annoying (you pop open the side panel on the passenger side and unplug it there) The other con I have is more of a concern. Subaru uses excessive silicon sealant on their oil pans instead of a gasket, and people are having problems with that sealant getting into the oil pan, and then clogging the pickup tube. (From what I know, about 3 cases of engines have blown because of it) Other than that, If you're considering this car, I highly recommend it. I could never be happier with the car. This is my first manual sports car, and I was lucky enough to be on a waiting list for 6 months and got one of the first 2023's off the port. Also, if you're willing to learn manual, this is a great car to start with.

It kinda makes me sad. I want a Gr86 but my 2016 Focus ST comes with better options. For like 15k You get a car with a small turbo, Recaro seats, 6-speed manual, heated seats, heated steering wheel, nice head unit, 252 Buff Horsies, 270 lb-ft of torque, hatchback storage, up to 30mpg

Do the same thing with the Z. New Z vs. $40K 240Z with the appropriate period mods (triple Mikunis, headers, Datsun speed suspension, MiniLites). It would be similar results of the same question.

@@vic_cresss Follow your heart dude. If you find the GT to be a better looking car, then go for it. Just be notified by the infamous torque dip in the mid rpms. I've driven a GT multiple times, and its a super fun car to drive. But the torque dip is quite noticeable

I have a GR86 on order... though it might be a 2024 model by the time my allocation turn comes up. I like the exterior styling of the AE86... there are not many 80's vehicles that I like the interiors on. Plastics were super crappy back then and brittle, plus the styling was just off the wall in some cases. The wheel selection is a great fit for the AE86. Great job to the owner for that selection, really fits the car well.

I know what this had to feel like. I had a Mercedes C300 W204 with 231hp and upgraded brakes, suspension, etc and i loved it. Selled it bcs it was to expensive at one point. Now i drive a W124 230E from 1988 with 132hp and the feeling when driving this "slow" car is different but not worse. I love it to cruise and in curvy mountain roads its a way harder kick of adrenalin when you dont have any kind of electronic help from the car that keep you alive.
