Top notch looking cage. Good move putting plates under the cage on the floor for strength. If you wanted to go all out, at the X brace area behind the seats you could weld a ~6" square plate over that entire area on both sides to tie all those welds together. It's probably not necessary but it would add a lot of additional strength and give a clean look.

@knutfournier41033 жыл бұрын
It looks absolutely amazing. It would have been nice to hear something about the safety calculations that go into making something like this. How much weight is this expected to withstand? In the event of a rollover, how much pressure would this be? Will the welds hold? Does the thickness of the metal tube make a difference?
@ameritus90413 жыл бұрын
For the most part the calculations have already been done. There are generally regulatory requirements on tube diameter, wall thickness, number and placement of different tubes, etc. depending on what race you will be taking part in. 2nd, rollcage strength is about impact not weight. You don't just want it to hold against the weight of the car, you want it hold against the weight of the car at 100mph as it hits a barrier. As for the welds, do NOT do this DIY unless you know how to properly make structural welds. Yes the thickness of the tube is extremely important to the strength of the cage. Hope this helps answer your questions.

ChrisFix used dry ice to freeze the sound deadening material, then shattered with a mallet. Worked really well.

Easiest way to clean the plasma cuts up is to get a nice heavy, clean edge piece of steel and just slam it into the buildup from the surface area of the steel outward. The whole thing will pop right off and save you a ton of grind time and use of abrasives. Let it cool for a minute first so it naturally separates a bit.

For the sounds deadening use dry ice. It freezes it and it’s really simple to remove as well as leaving a clean surface
