Do you have a bionic wrench? What have you used it on/for?
@MachtPlays2 жыл бұрын
One specific bolt on my sim rig for my handbrake lol Everything else Ive tried to use it for, I just end up using a normal socket or wrench. I got it for like $2 on sale though so I aint mad at it. They could make a wrench like this, that actually worked well. But youd have to use legit quality materials, and the cost would probably outweigh any good profit margins.

They can massively improve it in a couple of ways: First, make it able to lock (like vice grips), and lengthen one of the handles, that way you can redirect all of the force to use like a normal wrench. Second, give the handles an angle, in relation to the gripping surface, so that you dont scrape it along without being able to grip the thing. It won't fix all of its issues, but make it much more usable.

Before they do the first test you can see there's a lock you can twist on the top that lets you lock it in place so you can release your grip, which also means you can use just one arm of the tool instead of squeezing both. I use to have the 8" one. Used it a LOT on doing bike repairs. Best tool I had. I will point out that you guys kinda missed the strength potential on it. If you pay attention to what direction the swivels rotate, you can continue that motion for a better grip & less likely for it to "round up". Best way to tell which direction to help in grip, is the direction the levers are bent, cuz that's the direction the swivel closes.

I was a tech who repaired rigid endoscopes for a few years. I used one of these every day, but never knew they were sold as a kind of infomercial, does-it-all sort of thing. They worked very well for the specific tasks we used them for in my lab, which was removing certain pieces of an endoscope for evaluation, replacement, etc. The endoscope pieces were round, and relatively thin metal, so wrenches wouldn't work and pliers would just destroy them (or the glass components inside). But the bionic wrench applied pressure evenly around the turn point, and could even turn the threaded connection through glue. You did have to have pretty good hand strength to use them though. And I never would have thought to try to use one on my car.

If you’re paying $65 for both of those, you really should have spent the same money on 1 or 2 Knipex Pliers Wrenches. As long as you’re orienting them in the correct direction, the act of pulling on the handle increases the clamping force so that you don’t have to squeeze, and they have a ridiculously large adjustment range. They’re also just nicely built tools, so there’s that.

@DonutMedia Depending on the way you grip the bionic wrench is designed so the way you put the wrench on it you use the directional force to push the wrench closed when you rotate it. So depending on which direction you are using wrench for, you may need to flip the wrench over. So you are not having to squeeze with your hand and try turn it. If you flip it over than the force you're using to rotate the bolt helps to close the wrench/pliers. Reducing the need to squeeze so hard to grip the bolt!

I feel like the tool creators could solve both the issues of tilt and how hard you have to hold it. - Make the tool free to bend upwards (or free to bend with a stopper, so it holds in a given angle) - Add something to hold it together (it could range from an electric magnet to a simple locking mechanism), and make it more circular on the handle side.

Then your could focus all your energy on turning the bolt and don't have to stress out your fingers so much. I think the main "downfall" of these gimmicky tools is that they are advertised as a "replace everything" tool. There is no such thing, and never will be. Just for perspective, 60 ft-lb @ roughly 4" = 180 lb worth of force. Justin is a strong dude.

The intended way to use the tool is to orient it in such a way that you just pull against the handle and the tension tightens it. You should never need to squeeze it after you start turning

Justin also calling it their show after he joined it and said he just wanted some fun was so wholesome to me 👌🏿

I immediately know how this tool could be improved to 10 times . A vise grip mechanism for the ability to adjust for the bolt size compared to where the handle squeezes

I used one of these to tighten the bell of my sousaphone for 2 years . They were GREAT for that . Lifesaver even .

The Bionic Wrench could use a vice grip type handle to lock down and reduce the amount of hand strength needed.

I traveled to the Los Angeles area for work once and bought one at a 24-hour Walgreens because it seemed like the right thing to do at that moment. I do not normally vibe my tool purchases, but honestly, no regrets... most honestly, I have never found a use for it

If they had some kind of handle lock to solve the gripping problem it'd be a really useful, quick tool to use.

So this is what Milton from office Space has been up to? _“I believe you have my bionic wrench”_

I've never worked on cars, but I've worked enough on my own randomly with hand tools to have immediately spotted what is turning out to be the biggest issue with this tool. The shape and method of use, and how limiting that is for actually working in limited spaces or at odd angles. That normal wrench they compared it to during the fastener test is so much more obviously well-designed to be versatile in use. Simplicity is the hallmark of good design.

I feel like jacks are infamous for being used above their recommended weight rating. It always seems to be the cheapo harbor freight jacks. I’d love to see how different brands of jacks stand up to the high end competition as far as weight capacity goes and if buying those $500 low profile mac tools jacks are worth it when they have the same recommended weight capacity. Shot in the dark but 🤷🏽♂️

It needs a locking mechanism. Squeeze it around the head as much as you can lock it in place then turn. Maybe add somekind of slide out extension for more leverage.

I still think the mythbusters narrator would vibe so well in these videos during the buffers

That tool could totally be improved. Good idea, needs to be updated though. If it locked like vise grips at each millimeter (or maybe by pressure applied); it would eliminate the hand pain thing. And breaker bars would then be effective. And that's literally off the top of my head. Feel like there wasn't enough people at the drawing board for this thing Edit: Just saw people already said this.

My mom gave me one a couple Christmases ago as a stocking stuffer. I use it to crimp large guage wire ferrules. It would be better if it ratcheted but it works well enough for the job.
