Actually Brazilian blooming in F1 was a consequence of the rise of Brazil’s auto industry in the 60s, around São Paulo. It created an ecosystem of auto parts makers, garages, stores etc. The Fittipaldi brothers themselves (Emerson and his brother Wilson, who also raced F1) had a steering wheel factory. São Paulo was also the destination of a horde of Italian immigrants (the Fittipaldis among them), who brought the auto racing passion with them. The construction of the Interlagos racing track in the 50s catalyzed all that into structured competitive auto racing. Brazil now has many racing tracks and championships, from rally to stock car to monopostos. Last but not least, you failed to mention 3 time world champion Nelson Piquet, for some reason often forgotten in great champions lists.

Finland isn't exactly "not known for their race car drivers". In almost any international motorsport, there's been a slew of Finns racing and winning. For example Finland was the undisputed number one home of WRC champions before the domination of the two Sebastiens taking the top number of championships to France. And even now, Finland has overwhelmingly the biggest number of champions. BTW, talking about Loeb and Ogier, what's up with the trend of long lasting champions in F1 and especially WRC in the last 20 years? In F1 it's been mostly Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton, and in WRC almost exclusively Loeb and Ogier. It's almost as if the two sports have gone stale and the same drivers are practically meant to win multiple times, instead of having to seriously compete for their titles most of the time.

Learning to drive in the USA and most other countries, you're taught to avoid skids at all costs and never break traction. Most people have no idea how to recover from, much less control or initiate a skid. Not only does the Finnish driver test require power slides, many Finnish drivers routinely break traction in non panic fashion on the way to the store or work. There's good reason it's called the Finnish Flick.

You forgot Jim Clark,Stirling Moss,Graham Hill,Nelson Piquet and a few others. Juan Manuel Fangio(Argentina) one of the greatest ever drove for Alfa Romeo, Maserati,Lancia,Ferrari and Mercedes. Incidently the Lancia D50 cars ,drivers ,mechanics and engineers went to Ferrari in 1955 when their F1 team went bankrupt. When I was a 3year old Jack Brabham drove me around Levin race track,(single seater)who can top that ? Oh,one more thing, Bruce McClaren was a kiwi,the New Zealand F1 connection.Can you find N,Z on a map?

You cannot talk about Brazil, without mentioning Nelson Piquet, many Brazilians consider him as the very best F1 driver we ever had, once he built his career on his own. As you are an F1 specialist I really recommend you get to know Piquet`s story! It is absolutely impressive!!

Don’t forget that the “German” Mercedes engine is actually designed and built in England by a company that was purchased by Mercedes for it’s engineering expertise.

Is Ilmor still doing engines for them?? Brilliant.
@dzelpwr3 жыл бұрын
Just Wiki'd it. Mercedes did indeed buy out Ilmor, though Mario Illien, the remaning, living co-founder of Ilmor, took the Ilmor name and has continued the IndyCar engine operation and started a Marine engine operation as well, separate from the entity that Mercedes purchased for F1. Has me wondering just how many Germans are now in the old Ilmor facility in the U.K..
@dzelpwr3 жыл бұрын
@@wingracer1614 now that would be interesting indeed! As far as I could tell, he seemed to have some distance between himself and his former company once Mercedes took it over. But I have definitely heard that RBR's takeover of the Honda engine program has seen them poach a LOT of Mercedes engine guys (which would be the former/original Ilmor company). Would be an interesting opportunity for Mario to reunite with some of his old gang outside of Mercedes, for sure. Would be fascinating if it turns out to be true! Definitely not counting out RBR's own engine program considering the talent they've been poaching and the continued development Honda themselves have done to allow them to hit the ground running for at least next season. Interesting times indeed!

@@dzelpwr I had a back and forth conversation with a Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains worker who run's their KZbin channel during a live stream a couple of years ago.and he said as far as the engineers are concerned who designed the engines, its pretty much multicultural now. with the best engineers from all over the world being brought in on the design team. the engineers in the machine shop who actually build the engines from the design drawing are a mixture of mainly British and German. and the management is also a mixture of British and German. when Mercedes first took over Ilmor it was mainly all British but most of those left and went to work with Mario once he set up his new engineering company.
