It is always a treat having artists talk about their craft because, so often, they can't explain what a decade+ of experience teaches. David clearly knows the craft but every question like "can you use too much heat?" or "how do you know when to force or finesse?" is answered with "I dunno, I just do it." The language of the amateur and the professional often very similar, though the results speak for themselves.

@@donsterr 👈 what he said ! I'm a panel beater of 14years. My customers would never let me get away with that! Not to mention... He's rolling the arch so the liner doesn't need to be cut, you're pushing the metal away from the liner (most liners sit it the bit you are rolling). Just undo a few screws and pop the liner out completely, understand then there's less of an opening for dirt and water to get in... Which will eventually rot your arches out !

My most versatile tool is my Dewalt Angle grinder. The first thing I did, day one when I bought my brand new ‘99 Civic Si is slap some 17” rims on it, drop it 2” and take an angle grinder to the rear quarters. To achieve a 0* camber, there was very little room to even roll. Did the same to wife’s 05 TL within weeks of taking delivery. Just be sure and use touch up paint at the cuts afterwards. Using tape as a cutting guide is a good way to stay straight.

Great vid, but a few notes; Back in the day when we rolled fenders with a bat we put the bat between the tire & fender (the car remained on the ground). One guy handled the bat while another guy got in the car slowly pulling forward & backing up as needed. If you needed more you repeated the process but this time with 2-3 friends sitting on the trunk. With all that being said, the gauge of metal on old vehicles was thicker which made it easier because it didn’t crease like modern vehicles.

There are many solutions to the fender liner clearance. I normally tuck the liner behind the new fold of the fender. That way you don’t leave a gap between the fender and liner as they did. Maybe in their case it was still gonna run so they had to cut. I’d use a heat gun to reshape the liner edge a bit if possible before I did that, and in some cases like my SRT-10 Ram, you just have to clearance a hole such as the area directly above the tire after doing a MAX front end (without control arm bracket fabrication) 2” drop with stock 22” rims & tires.

I LOVE the idea of this show!!!! I really would love to see a DIY or not about rebuilding a 5-600hp small block VS just buying a new/used one‼️ Machine shops can get spendy QUICK! But the price of cams pistons and performance parts is quite reasonable with all the competition out there‼️

Came back to this vid this weekend when I swapped out 15"s for 17"s on my e36, bought a roller after work on Saturday and smashed out the rears with a hair dryer in an hour or 2. Worth the price and for future use I reckon.

This is what Money Pit should have been. Doing things the amateur's way, not using expensive machines none of us can afford. Thank you for going back to the original format (obviously, as a different show but a similar premise.)

This is great, because I bought the fender roller and heat gun months ago but haven't done it yet. This is motivation to actually just do it before I repaint the car

Great episode! It's like you were reading my mind! As you were rolling the front, I thought "Hey, DIY does not mean doing it with a baseball bat! Rollers are like 60$!", and bam, you pick up the proper tool for the rear!

I've rolled several with a nice soft, heavy hammer and a block of wood with a rag wrapped around it. Just work it slowly the whole length of what you want rolled, going a little at a time (wheel off of course!)... back and forth

In 2010, we used a cheap Wagner heat gun and a small base ball bat to roll the frack out of my rear fenders. ....2005 E46 M3. No paint damage. Still holding up 12 years later.

This is only channel where I watch whole videos (i don't skip commercials) because I have a feeling they put their soul into every commercial they make. Sometimes commercial is better than the main video 😅
