We do have quite a lot of deer in Canada since there is so much outdoor land. You could quite easily see them in many places apart from cities.

Not being a jerk goes a LONG ways. Pull over first safe spot. Myself I don’t grab anything. Window down, car off. Go from there. “ License ? In my billfold, have to unhook seat belt?” Pause “go ahead”. Insurance in glove box “go ahead” or that’s fine. Seems to relax things I’m not digging stuff out as they walk up, just hands on wheel. In winter “is it ok if I keep car running?” I have always been told that’s fine. I have gotten one ticket. And he reduced it 10mph. which saved me a lot. State Trooper was going to ticket me. No doubt. Important call came over his radio. He tossed my stuff back. “Get out of here” tore off. Saved me $$$$

My dad and I were going to work (my dad's company had a policy of employing college-bound children of employees preferentially for summer replacement labor). We were on a road we both knew like the backs of our hands which disappeared from us in the fog. (I just learned that location was about 1000 yards from where Lynyrd Skynyrd composed "Sweet Home Alabama" three years before.) We pulled well off the road and got out of the car. We were hearing the squeal of breaks and the screech of tires on pavement and the sickening crunch of metal on metal until the fog lifted about two hours later. Our side of the divided highway (less traveled side) was OK, but the other side had about twenty cars now fused into a single sick-and-twisted caterpillar. Remarkably enough, nobody got killed or even seriously injured. Two rules in Florida - don't drive through no puddle you don't know the bottom of, and don't drive in a fog where you can't see the lines on the pavement...

10:33 - Of course it could be worse than that - in Salt Lake City on late arrival from the airport, I experienced "freezing fog". I'm driving along an interstate-class highway and see lots of cars on either side of the road ahead. Then my windshield flashed over with frost (!!). Then the car behind me on my right started spinning. I managed to get my windshield clear in time to see that many, many people has slid on the ice on to the shoulder on either side of the road, with the people out of their cars waving their hands trying to get people SLOW DOWN. Somehow I managed to get through that event (and the two that followed (!!)) without incident...
