Her "do it idgaf" is a common response from people who are met with "empty threats" or threats of self harm in order to twist someones arm. NOW, the one caveat with all that I said is that depending on the messages between the couple. If she knew he was in a distressed state of mind and/or has had these issues and knew that it could've potentially been a real threat than she might be have a problem. I would guess that they muted the mic's because just like civilians, police officers have rights aswell. Just because they are police officers doesn't strip them of their rights. Fifth amendment/ Miranda rights, Garrity rights and Weingarten rights. After the incident there's no need for a body camera to be recording. The incident is done and over with. They could have also been initiating a debriefing with a supervisor. Either way I don't think these officers started their day wanting to shoot someone. Often times after a fatal shooting I'll see comments commending the officers for saving tax payers money. Very little thought is put into the emotional effects these incidents put the officer through.

I learned about this case a few days ago in my criminology class. My teacher didn't tell us any of this. He made it sound like the guy was an upstanding citizen who was just hanging out in his grandma's backyard making a phone call when two racist police officers mistakenly thought he tried to break into someone's car and proceeded to mag dump him. He also said that the guy didn't say anything and tried to approach the police with his hands extended suggesting surrender. I pretty mad right now, I was straight up lied to.

Had to fatally shoot a perp who had just shot another person back in the early 90s. Of course, because he was black it became a "race" issue. Didn't have body cams or any other recording devices back then, so it was old-school CSI that determined that it was a legit shoot. Local NAACP ran hard on the "unarmed black man shot in the back with his hands up" until a black eye-witness went on-record to refute that and give an actual statement of fact. I never got an apology from either the NAACP, nor the local media that ran with and perpetuated the false story. The upside: I've been happily retired for almost ten years, now. The nightmares and anxiety attacks rarely happen anymore.............................
