On the sinigang mixes - the one with “Gabi” is basically the same thing as the original except it is mixed with Taro, which makes the soup a little thicker.. The brand you got, “Knorr” tastes more traditional and is more widely used here in the Philippines than the Mama Sita brand 😊

As a malaysian watching this, felt so proud to see so many ingredients i know! Even if not all of the stuff are malaysian, but a lot of south east asian food are influenced by one another and each country have their own version or adaptation of another neighbouring country’s food like rendang and in malay we call it singang instead of sinigang. Also, dooby’s lived experiences as a third culture kid coming back and trying to assilimate herself into her home country and culture while she reminisces her life in her second home is one i can entirely relate to. I think its why i love watching dooby so much bc of how much i relate to her in this aspect as someone who also grew up in a different country and having to move back to my hime country that both feel so familiar and foreign to me. Watching her videos give me solace knowing that someone else is going thru the motions as i too, am trying to navigate my life moving back to malaysia after having lived almost 2 decades in dubai. ALSO i love how varied dooby’s knowledge of food is, since not many people are well versed or know much of south east asian cuisine. Seeing her eat pho, picking up rendang paste and getting excited over morning glory is just so touching. Much love dooby!

That grocery shopping section at 14:23 really hit as a Filipino American. It's really such an American, or maybe immigrant, experience to find yourself looking for your traditional tastes in places off the beaten path, while exploring tons of other cultures' cuisines on the way. And then to visit your "home" country and feel both at home and not at the same time. It's kind of a weird feeling of figuring out your cultural identity, but a relatable feeling to so many Asian Americans. Also, a few years ago, it was a lot harder to find Filipino cooking content online. I was always looking for my Filipino Maangchi. Still haven't found her, but you and our generation of content creators are doing a great job of bringing Filipino food to more people! So congrats on the one year and thanks Doobs! And shout out Mary Anne, I hope ya'll reconnect.

Hey Tina! Indonesian represents here! I’ve been wanting to write a comment in your previous videos but that ‘rendang’ and ‘nasi goreng’ packets succeeded in summoning my shy soul😂 gurl you chose the right brand! ‘Bamboe’ is a really nice brand imo everything from that brand taste good and it’s very simple to make bcos you just basically need to add the main ingredients afterwards! even my Indonesian mom uses them on a daily basis lol And also thank you for being somehow of a friend to me! Your videos has been a source of comfort to me lately who’s also in the process of adulting🤧 there’s just so many points you’ve said that I could totally relate to and it makes me feel that I’m not alone :) and I always look forward to your video! so gurl you’re doing a really great job! Hi Tina! Pecel is a meal originated from Java, Indonesia. The sambal pecel that you bought is the spicy version of peanut sauce to pour atop various veggies (here we use spinach, green beans, cucumber, cabbage, bean sprouts). Sometimes people would put fried things (like tempeh or our local twigims, lol). All veggies are supposed to be boiled and only salt and pepper are used for seasonings! Hope this helps :)

Your skill as a food scientist will be challenged to make the best version of rendang👍🏻 bcos “Rendang” itself refers to the cooking method to preserve the meat for West Sumatran society just like Kimchi for South Korean. Stay creative and wild, Tina! Happy Anniversarry Tina!! May you continue to be inspiring! Hello from Indonesia! If you like to taste the authentic beef rendang, add 4 shallots, 1-2 fresh red chilli mixed into one. You can use any tough cut for stew and soak the beef on the young coconut water overnight (optional). On the day of cooking, saute minced shallots and fresh chilli and the spice pack w bit of oil until fragrant, then add the beef almost caramelised and add half coconut cream and water. Once the water boil you can place them on rice cooker and stew them overnight, or stew them in the pot till the whole house smells rendang, then adjust the thicknes of the gravy as you like ( you can have em curry like, or more like coated). Happy Cooking! 👩🍳👩🍳👩🍳
