Quick question, does the F1 cut or just engrave?

It can cut only thinner materials and if small size. Their XY systems are more geared towards cutting. The F1 shines best with engraving as it has higher resolution & it's VERY fast.

I see their tool is not available for Linux, is there anything FOSS I can use instead or is it a proprietary protocol? Also, I see you mainly engrave bitmaps and not splines. is there a benefit for that approach? I mean bitmap to vector software does exist, AFAIK.

No Linux support as far as I know. I engrave bitmap, SVG, DXF, etc. Just depends on the images. Sometimes conversions can mess up an image so I go for what gives a clear result. Sometimes its slower, but if I'm only engraving a few it makes no difference. If I had a large batch, I would look into spending more time on images that are taking a long time
