Just bought this in the 20W for my wife. She’s currently using a Cricket and wanted a Glowforge Aura but after research, I found this is a better option. She can change the laser between the 20W to the 2W or go up to a 40W. All the reviews of this new machine have been positive. Hope she likes it, I sacrificed all my Christmas presents this year to afford it!

Thanks so much for this review. I started out wanting the P2, but the price puts me off a bit, since I'm just beginning this new adventure. The S1 is attractive to me because i can start smaller and expand if i need to. Your video made up my mind, going with the S1!!

good review and all, I like the idea of having swappable modules for variety in a small space. Eh, but I always get a kick out of "makers" that get an open gantry laser and then whine about it being open... as a maker, the first thing I do is make an enclosure or what ever else I deem necessary for the work I plan to do... 🤗

Looking at an engraver for the first time. Would you rather have the S1 40w or the P2 Co2?

Great review. Can the focus lens be changed? I don't see them being offered for S1.
@VoeltnerWoodworking10 ай бұрын
Thank you. It can be removed so I don't see why it can't be changed. They probably don't offer it generally yet because all of the machines are still under warranty, but if you have an issue with yours I bet they can replace it.

Hi there, I am wanting to get a photograph engraved on stainless steel using the X-tool S1 with the 2w IR laser. I am based in the UK and wondering if you are able to do this? if so please reach out to discuss further. Many thanks, Joe

I'm completely new to lasers. I read that some can oxidize metal and create color. Do only certain types do that? Does this one?
@VoeltnerWoodworking10 ай бұрын
Yes, diodes are great on stainless steel to get different colors. I showed some of that in my D1 40w video, but I highly recommend the S1 like in this video because of the additional features and safety over the D1. Here's the D1 video for reference: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGGzp3eJrLCKqbs

Hey Matt, great, informative video! I'm a 'newbie', trying to decide between the M1 and the S1. You mention 'batch engraving'... this is one of my big questions. Can you engrave/cut multiple pieces at one time in the S1? For example, if you had 4 wood coasters that you wanted to engrave, could you put them all in the S1 at the same time so they engrave in one shot, or do you have to do it as 4 'separate' operations? The lack of camera intimidates me, but that being said, since this is my first laser, I suppose I could adapt to either way? Just curious on your thoughts. (I have 2 Silhouette Cameos and I'm very tech-savvy, so not too concerned about becoming familiar with, and using the software.) :-)
@VoeltnerWoodworking Жыл бұрын
You can absolutely do batch engraving on this machine. It just won’t have the adaptive technology like the P2. You’ll want to make a template for repetitive engraving, but that’s super simple. This will be a nice machine to learn on.

@@VoeltnerWoodworkingthank you so much for the swift response. I will definitely be going 'all in' and getting air assist and the filter; Overall, if I'm choosing between the 10W M1 ($1949 for what I've configured) or the 20W S1 ($2599 for what I've configured), what would your recommendation be? Worth the extra for an S1 for a newbie? (Watching another of your videos... I'll be subscribing, so informative!)
@VoeltnerWoodworking Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. Beyond the bed/working size difference (385mmx300mm for M1 and 608x388 for S1), the wattage of a 20w will allow you to cut much thicker material. I'd say if you're not going to need the knife to cut vinyl for the M1 (since you have the Silohettes), then I would go with the S1. You're going to be able to do so much more with this machine. You'll also be saving $80 by using the code and should get free shipping, so that's icing on the cake!

I find it much easier to build my own. The xTool support page has a how-to on this topic, and you can customize it however you want. Check out support.xtool.com/article/872?ref=FCYiXVqZuxgXT& and let me know if that works for you.

Was told by XTool the s1 could mark inside rings - I’ve received my s1 but can’t find a way to engrave inside rings - anyone worked this out?
@VoeltnerWoodworking Жыл бұрын
You have the RA2 rotary and riser? You have to tilt the RA2 I’ve heard but I haven’t tried it yet. Maybe this will give me a reason. lol.
@ThewoodhutCoUkwoodengifts Жыл бұрын
Yes I have riser and RA2 - it seems the focus range is so close with both the 40w and IR module that you can not get inside the ring even with the ra2 tilted at a 35-45 degrees. There are loads of videos of the D1 laser achieving this.
