Duke used to play at my club(Jack's) sporadically during the 90's. Always gracious, always kind, and always inviting-letting me sit in on a song or two during his sets. Never heard him hit a sour note. I treasure my days running the door at Jack's where so many legends played and became friends.

Righteous and right on! I love all the great organ players and even ones that are just barely good, but none of them could ever make me start grooving when I wasn't even feeling groovy, or feel happy when it hadn't even crossed my mind, like the late great Shirley Scott.

One of the finest jazz videos I have ever listened too. I fully agree with Robert Losick. Thanks.

@organfreak sad but so true! Personally, I never did get to film or videotape Groove Holmes but I have to believe there is footage out there that has just not been edited or uploaded. Let's keep our fingers crossed that some day it will surface

Thanks for posting this, Pete! Footage of Jack McDuff is quite rare. I haven't heard a lot of Duke Jethro, and have seldom heard Shirley play bass, and she swings hard here. If you happen to have anything of Groove Holmes, we need to see that-- there's nothing so far.

Duke played with BB King in the 60's. He is a big part of BB's "Blues Is King" album.

I'm just pissed the greatest, Jackie Davis, is nowhere on video or film except playing a Hammond Concorde in Denver.
