Doom is a franchise with 3 diferent moments. The action horror phase with Doom 1 & 2, the survival horror with Doom 64 and Doom 3. Now we are in the power fantasy phase with Doom (2016), Doom Eternal and the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages and ALL the phases of this francise are ABSOLUTE MARTERPIECES!!! Don’t forget they almost butchered this beloved franchise back in 2013 with that canceled Doom Modern Warfare copy cat pile of crap! thankfully it never got released because doom would probably become another failed franchise like halo if it was allowed to be shipped! This timeline we live in has the doom franchise done right! I enjoyed doom 3 for what it was but really appreciate the lore Bethesda added with doom 2016 and doom eternal! Probably the only good thing that’s come out from Bethesda these last couple of years!

This was the game to get back in 2004. There was a large audience who were excited for this game. I was one of them. Coming from Doom 1 and 2, this had people hyped. I remember waiting in line over night at Best Buy for this game release. And then the movie came out and people starting playing Battlefield 2. lol

It was also a game that pushed hardware pretty significantly at the time. I remember reading articles talking about system readiness and upgrades one could perform to get their PCs ready for good game performance. Doom 3 was a big graphical leap forward for PC gaming at the time, just as Crysis was in 2007.

Half-Life did what Doom could not so Doom 3 tried to make up the difference but some people preferred the DOOM gameplay and Doom3 weapon balance is not very good. The shot gun sucks ass unless you kiss the enemy on the nose and the machine gun feels fake unless an enemy is using it on you.

This was a good game, brought the scare factor. And the lose PDF's made it better. Nothing like going from friends planning a DnD session to hearing voices in maintenance shafts to "There are monsters, I'm hiding in a trash can and I'm scared!"

I've never understood the hatred of this game. For me, this is the jewel of the whole series. Shooter + atmospheric horror is the limit of dreams.

Cuphead journalist level gamers, that's why. They did the same to Rage. Also, monitors were switching to LCD, which had terrible black level contrast. Doom3 was pretty good if you just enjoyed it for what it was. I enjoyed it more than HL2. Also, Rage can be enjoyed way more if you properly mod it, and use the config tweaks. Use uncompressed textures and the hidden upscaler command.

My main gripe is and always will be the flashlight. I understand the intention behind the deliberate handicap, but it doesn't work when you ask the simple question: "Why can't a trained marine hold a flashlight in one hand and a gun in the other? Or, if the gun is too big and powerful, why can't he figure out some other solution?" Other games of this flavor proved that it can be done without sacrificing the horror - a good example is Dead Space. However, I'll always appreciate Doom 3 for what it is. I got countless hours of enjoyment out of it when I was a 12 year old kid and it invigorated my love of horror.

You have to switch out several guns, sometimes using 3 different guns in a single battle. Very difficult to handle anyway. At least, the flashlight have a specific button for it.

Nah being able to use the flashlight at the same time as a weapon ruins the feel of the game. It's just not scary in the same way. I think people were just disappointed at the time because they wanted the game to be more like the 93 one, but it just wasn't designed to be like that. As for it not making sense I don't think that matters much. I mean how much stuff in games actually makes sense? Usually not much.

Looks almost like Quake 4 with particles size set on right. Quake 4 looks amazing, but if You set the graphics to high, it aint really high. You must change particles size in the config and it will look sharp and clean AF. Btw. I finished Doom 3 so many times that I cant even count it, just like Q2, Q4 and GTA San Andreas. Those are games that I can return when I get 80 years old.

Well if you ever noticed or payed attention the places you go in DooM 1 correspond with DooM 3. Like tge first level in episode 3 inferno is an updated version in DooM 3 same monsters and map layout as when you to hell in DooM 3. So what "they" meant was that it's story that Carmack didn't want to tell in the forst is this in DooM 3

People forget how revolutionary this game was, especially when compared to contemporary fare like Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I remember it was ironic that you needed a video card with 512MB of VRAM to see all the effects.....when cards like that didn't exist at the time. There are limits, such as the models have low poly counts, most obvious when you see a character with a bald head and the shape is angular. The textures also tend to have a metallic look for everything, but considering it's in an industrial environment works. The first half hour; an interactive world, touch screens that actually work, physics with falling objects, is amazing. What lets it down is the repetitive game play. It's ALL in dark environments and entering a room, two monsters appear in front of you, one behind, over and over. You have background story elements with the audio/text files of the various people at the base, but otherwise it's just endlessly shooting monsters.

Salio en la generacion de la ps2 y esta no lo podia mover. Doom 3 was different in that it went for a more 'Horror' based approach as opposed to the usual run and gun action of the Doom series. It had created many detractors, but simultaneously also many supporters because it stands out as fairly unique. Perhaps ID Software ought to look at combining the two styles in future Doom games.

Neat thing is is that Doom was originally going to be directly tied to the Alien franchise but the idea was abandoned. A lot of the aesthetics were kept though, so it still looks and feels like an Alien game, especially with Doom 3.

The normal shotgun secondary fire shoots 2 shells and do nearly 3x dmg, almost 2x if you hit half the pellets, basically alt fire is like normal shot from super shotgun from doom 2,64 and his exoansion Resurrection of evil

DOOM3 is my favorite of the franchise but this is coming from a console gamer. I played it on the original XBOX, the bfg edition on the 360 and then on each generation since then cuz it's been backwards compatible. I really want to see it get the remaster treatment from I'd and for it to include horde mode. Include those dog-like bots to help you fight off the waves of imps, hell knights, etc.
