Fun fact: In Gnosticism, Sabaoth is the name of an Archon. The Archon of MARS, to be specific. The word Sabaoth also translates to "Armies", or "Hosts", & was apparently sometimes used as part of a title, i.e. Yahweh-Sabaoth = Lord of Armies, or Lord of Hosts.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who thought they looked similar, when i first played doom 3 when i was a kid i thought they were the same person and wondered how SGT kelly got back to marine HQ so fast when he was just with swan talking to dr betruger, and didn't he also arrived on mars with the player, but then i realized they were too completely different characters. i honestly think it would've mad sense for campbell to be wearing the armor that the mars security guards wore cause he technically wasn't a marine and was working for swan who was part of the UAC and it would make more sense then him wearing marine armor, or atleast make the marine armor a different color like grey or something.
@SplotchTheCatThing9 ай бұрын
Interesting original idea that he wasn't the "real" Sergeant Kelly at all; just a demon entity wearing his face. More like what happened to the Z-Sec enemies. Definitely something that would be worth exploring; maybe in a future game with a different character?

This is the scariest boss in Doom 3, next to the cyberdemon and vagary. This guy had such a good build up to his fight, and you hated to fight Sarge Kelly and hated to see the monster they turned him into. It's the only boss in the game that you don't want to fight, because he used to be a friend that looked out for you, and you see him corrupted.

10:08 I know it is not as important for the video but even if you do kill Campbell and get the BFG in Alpha Labs 1, you still lose your weapons when you get to Hell and Delta 5, so it is essential to take Sarge's BFG after the boss fight regardless. There is also an even quicker way of killing Sarge using a chainsaw. Cool video, nice camera work with some of the shots 😊

6:52 I would like to think that some of those body parts are actually Kelly's, bcos from swann's position until we meet kelly, it doesn't make sense on how he go such narrow terrains for a tank(or maybe there are hidden passage that is unavailable for player). Not to mention that how bfg have been place on him that make me think that, his form on the time we meet him is not the same as the time swann and campbell get ambushed. Maybe, he undergo final changes at the very place we meet him bcos it would make sense for the name of that place itself, "sarge's garage", placing a tank for his own final transformation. Anyway, this is just my opinion
@ceu1601939 ай бұрын
Or he was teleported there, like demons can do. Wonder why Campbell brought BFG with him to begin with, when base is mostly close quarters and BFG manual doesn't recommend it's use for close range combat.
@Schwarzvogel19 ай бұрын
@@ceu160193 That is a _very_ good question... especially considering that Swann and Campbell obviously _weren't_ expecting the demon invasion. They showed up to have a personal chat with Dr. Betruger, and to forcibly take him into custody or even quietly ice him if the scientist proved especially recalcitrant I'd imagine that Campbell brought the BFG 9000 along for a couple reasons: intimidation factor and also necessity. 1. Intimidation factor. Remember Tony Bates PDA with the code for the locker in the security station at the start of the CPU Complex? Chief Michael Abrams (who himself was issued a new BFG 9000) mentions in his email to Bates about the weapon that most people tend to listen when you point a rocket launcher at them.Obviously, a rocket launcher is an even _worse_ weapon for close combat than a BFG, but yet, Chief Abrams felt it would be a useful service weapon for Bates... which is kind of batshit crazy if you think about it, as it would be analogous to the armed security at DARPA headquarters in VA walking around with AT4s. But then again, to my knowledge, DARPA's research doesn't involve creating teleporters to use hell itself as a shortcut for instantaneous travel or bringing back demonic creatures to study. 2. Necessity. Swann and Campbell may not have known everything that was going on in the facility, but Swann may have been privy to some of the more dangerous and classified experiments being conducted on Mars. Moreover, they were _already_ planning to use force, potentially lethal, against Dr. Betruger as Campbell remarks "alright, time for plan B" after Swann's frustrating video call with Betruger directly after the start of the invasion (this takes place in Administration). Swann and Campbell may have reckoned on the possibility of Betruger putting up armed resistance to them--there's no shortage of guns and military-grade hardware in the UAC facility, and the company seems to manufacture quite a bit of its heavy weaponry (Mach 3 Chaingun, Series 3 Plasma Gun, and the BFG 9000) in-house within that facility. So if Betruger managed to get some of the Mars Sec personnel to put up a fight against Swann and Campbell if/when they tried to apprehend him forcefully, Campbell's BFG 9000 would come in handy against the shotguns and submachine guns of the Mars Security detachment.

This was a great video. Full of cool trivia and info. One thing that never got fully explained in the game is why Sergeant Kelly left Mars City for the Delta Complex after sending you to find the scientist. After all hell breaks loose, you return to Mars City, but Sergeant Kelly is gone, and his video transmission near the Marine Command HQ reveals he is now in Delta. I don't know why he would leave Mars City for the Delta Complex right after sending you to find the scientist, because he told you to return to him after you found the scientist. Very bizarre behavior. Also, during his very last video transmission with the player in Delta Labs 1, you can see Kelly has changed, and his voice sounds tired, struggling to utter words. In the background, it's hard to make out exactly, but it looks like his tank inside the garage. Pretty cool stuff.

Some of the marines were mentally and morally strong enough to resist the evil. Kelly wasn't , he must of had something deep inside his soul he was willing to sell to the devil to transform into Sabaoth. In Doom 3, getting turned into a demon (and not a damned soul or zombie) is a reward.

I see some similarities with Strogg design too, except that the Strogg focus on pure efficiency in their designs. This? This was meant to inflict pain, perhaps even more so than to make him a weapon. The Strogg encased their tank controllers in armor, but here they stretched his skin AROUND the armor, almost to maximize the suffering he endures, even if it makes the fleshy parts more vulnerable. I see more similarities with the Hunter designs, which also seem to focus on maximizing the suffering of the entities entombed in those things. So, very similar, but distinct at the same time. This is clearly a weapon designed by demons.

"Arrgh! Useless machine! Attack!" I always thought that the names of the Doom Hunter and Marauder should have been switched. The Marauder _looks_ more like a hunter specifically sent to eliminate the Doom Slayer, as the Marauder fights in a manner very different from other demons and even packs his own version of the Doom Slayer's favourite firearm, the Super Shotgun. (Thankfully, your SSG is a lot deadlier than his, which he seems to have loaded with No. 4 buckshot instead of whatever gnarly loads the Doom Slayer uses in his shotguns.) Most of the demons are just savage beasts, but the Marauder comes across as actually possessing a fair degree of intelligence, as it's the only demon in the game which is actually capable of human speech. By contrast, the Doom Hunter looks more like a demonic rapid assault unit, designed for swift hit-and-run... or "marauding" attacks on fortified enemy positions. In hindsight, I do wish that id Software had done a bit more with the Marauder in terms of the narrative of Doom Eternal. The Marauders are supposed to be corrupted Night Sentinels who knew the Doom Slayer personally, or at least knew of him. Thus, the devs could have made each Marauder fight a unique encounter, and hint that the player is truly battling his former friends and battle buddies--perhaps even giving them some last words before they die ranging from taunting the player to expressing their regrets over what they have become. That, and there should have been a glory kill in which the Marauder attempts to parry the Doom Slayer's Doomblade with its Argent Axe, but the Doomslayer either overpowers it with sheer brute strength or batters the axe away before brutally killing the former Night Sentinel with his Doomblade, or maybe even by ripping its Argent Axe out of its hands and decapitating it with that weapon, before casting the corrupted axe away in disgust.

Considering that during development the damage and health values of weapons and demons where much more closer to classic doom( Imp has 40 health in the 2002 alpha, while the pistol did five damage per shots) I wondered if ID just forgot to raise up that guy's health to ajust to the current weapon damage. I often wondered if the Wraiths and Maggots haven't went trought the same problem.

I wonder that if he went on to live, would he keep decaying until its just bone and metal with electric impulses keeping him alive or was the entire process halted during transformation. btw i do think that was sarge's leg and spine, but the torso might be someone else's. As if someone like a rescued soldier was with him during the impromptu transformation when they got sacrificed or killed in a demon "attack". The transformation i believe might have been assisted with at least two demons, casting spells or manually grafting him to the machine. Before this even happened, i think that Kelly was slowly losing his control and composure with Bert's constant telepathic chiding and the lost souls constantly burring through him, enjoying the taste of his conflicted, weakening spirit, degrading his body until he finally joined the demons and against his surviving men who were sacrificed for his transformation. The machine itself looks man made, but it could also be an extrapolation from sarge's consciousness conjured into existence as part of his demonic identity being about aggression, military, conflict, oppression and firepower. He was promised a reward to rule by his side as a powerful lord in "hell" if he helped Bertruger- i wonder if this mutilated, confined final form was itself a betrayal by Bertruger and if sarge would've still helped him if he knew this would be how he ended up.
