Here's a suggestion for a better critical damage. My house rule is that critical damage is the roll plus the maximum of what that die can roll. You keep rolling 1s for your critical damage, and when you multiply it by 2, you only have 2. With my house rule, rolling 1 would give you 7 damage (1 + 6 since it's a d6). Anyways, just a suggestion. Good series though, I've been binge watching this series the last couple of days and boy am I hooked.

Your little game So1um I used in my first timid steps into solo rpg that turned out successful & still the most memorable. I played my own little Terminator adventure with a grid & some minis & I also had a fantasy adventure pulled heavily from Skyrim that was all theater of the mind. These two little adventures are still the most successful in pulling me in & immersing me into the game (I used the expanded edition). More complex systems I've read & tried out just seem to stop me or stop the flow of the game. The rules can distract. With So1um I could create a monster or whatever I needed & prob in less same time it takes to look up monster stats in larger systems.

22:50 "White Box does not have a morale rule." It does, actually. I have three copies of the book (one for each of the different covers). The morale rules are on pages 39 and 40.

Thanks! I don't know how many copies of the WB rules (and the various version of the rules) but yes, you are correct. If I cannot recall a rule during play...especially solo play...I prefer to make a ruling based on what makes sense in the situation. In this situation I think I was referring more to the fact that WB does not list a morale 'stat' for the monster listing like many other editions do.

Really? I think WB is very stingy with Magical Items. Do you tweak it at all?

@@rolanejo8512 no, you're probably right though. What I like about it is you always get at least something for your efforts. With b/x I'll blank a treasure hoard a lot of the time and get nothing at all. Plus thinking of the reward as a multiple of the xp earned helped me with hand placed treasure too.

Really enjoyed this, thanks. If I had remembered the light on nose after characters died, I would have ruled they were "mostly dead". Their co-combatants would have discovered they were just unconscious and thought to be dead. Some healing and long rest (week maybe) they would be good as new. Just a thought.

It was a real struggle! I imagine that as the fight progressed, the characters became worried that they might not succeed, and began making poor decisions.

Thanks Matt for this video, I really enjoy your story and the battle with the Trolls! I am really happy to have found this videos in KZbin. One question, In page 80 of the rule books there is a table for the monsters attack Rolls, shouldn't the Troll have a +6 in Hit Rolls?

This is a great take on solo gaming. I've been looking for ideas on how to do it and I think your methods are the best so far. I do have a question though. When using the ascending AC system in White Box, shouldn't you be adding the HD of the creatures to their attack rolls? I think the trolls would be getting a +6. The characters have a base attack bonus. I wasn't sure if you were skipping that for simplicity's sake. You may have stated that and I missed it. Anyway, I'm looking forward to more.

@@bigbob240 same here. I play for fun and fiddly little details that slow the game and reduce the fun are not important to me. I’d rather have a fun and entertaining game, than worry about if Joe could move 5 or 6 feet to reach a monster.
