i have thought of the ultimate doom challenge run... code in a new weapon that does negetive 1 damage every hit... then heal the boss to death!... by making his hit points raise to the max number of the game which will then cuase the bo'ss'es health to roll back to the base negetive number, killing it with the maximum possible damage!!! :v i will start making atempts now, and when i one day die, my offspring shall inheret this challenge....

I remember playing a mod where you fist a docile cyberdemon in a closed apartment with smooth jazz playing and all health power-ups changed to buckets of lube. Doom community is great.

I remember we used to make open arena maps and fill them with Cyberdemons and the goal was to see how long you could last. We called it the Rocketboy challenge. Sometimes you could spawn back in fast enough to see your previous body disintegrate in front of you!

The Cyberdemon's missiles exploding on the player does damage to him, so that does a good amount of dmg.

@@draskang You would think so, but the Cyberdemon is immune to splash damage (as is the Spider Mastermind). Rockets only deal direct damage to him while the blast radius does nothing. This is why rocket dueling him is less effective than the plasma rifle. The berserk pack is what gave them the edge.

Cyberdemon has 4000 HP. Fist does 2-20 damage regular, and up to 200 on berserk. Absolutely insane that Mike pulled that off.

Carmack did nothing gameplay related, John Romero was the gamer/player/gameplay guy of the team, admited by Carmack himself. Carmack was just "the engine" guy, or something like that. At this time he probably was already full into researching/programming the quake engine.

There's a speedrun category called Tyson for completing any level with just your fists and Tyson Grandmaster for fists on Nightmare. Every video I've seen uses the strafe dodge and one hit before running out and trying again.

The Cyberdemon's own missiles do aoe damage to himself if they explode close enough, so he's killing himself whenever he hits you at close range.

The cyberdemon by itself isn't really too much of a threat. Its attacks do a lot of damage, yes, but they're easy to strafe and dodge. Doing a tyson run and beating the cyberdemon is mostly just a case of patience.

This level was so nerve-wrecking for me as a kid. I think it contributed to having PTSD as an adult. My parents were cool for letting me play Doom as a young boy. They probably shouldn't have let me play this and watch Friday the 13th movies and such when I was a sweet, impressionable little lad. I grew up to be a crazy person. 🤪

I'VE DONE IT!!! a loong long time ago back in the 90s!! lol best way to do it is the original Doom map ending with ALLOT OF OPEN SPACE so you are not getting blasted by the rockets AOE. Dodge dodge dodge then run in and punch in a few times than haul ass out!! I did it with the PC setup (sensitive mouse) took FOREVER.. think i spent all night at it lol. Theres a way to be really close to him but gotta be SUPER FAST to dodge the 3 rockets.. then zoom in punch and haul ass out again.. rinse repeat

This isn't nearly as hard as they're making it out to be. You just have to know what you're doing. Getting a berserk pack makes it go a lot faster. He fires rockets in sets of 3, just dodge around them, run in to punch, retreat, and repeat. If you're really good, you can do it without the invincibility.
