The empty secret has a BFG on lower difficulties. The most awesome thing to do in this map is to use BFG on the enemies behind the blue door, it makes so many gibblets. BTW the bloodpillar with Revenant can be lowered, don't know why though since it's not good for anything.

The blood pillar is for deathmatch and it has BFG for deathmatch.

With four chaingunners room, I act differently: I run straight forward to the silver lift and hide behind it. Then I wait till all the enemies come to it, relower, and fire a couple of rocketsto kill them all.

I once had a ghost Pain Elemental when I played this map on vanilla Doom. This is a rare glitch, but it's scary when it happens. Under normal circumstances, a Pain Elemental doesn't leave a corpse when killed. But if it gets crushed while dying, it will turn into a pool of blood, which can then be revived by an Arch Vile, resulting in a ghostly Pain Elemental that can pass through walls, and can only be damaged by blast damage.

The abandoned mines is one of my favorite maps of this game, and I think it's even harder than Bloodfalls. The only problem I see with this map it's that it is too short, I'd expect it to be bigger considering we are approaching to the end.

It's a breather between the hell of 23 and 24 and 26 onward. Doom 2 is far better than the first Doom, but not quite as good as Plutonia. TNT is somewhere better than Doom but not quite as good as Doom 2.

A strategy that suited me in the big room with chain gunners and blue door was to run to the bridge, lower and get inside. They'll all pile up on the platform when you lower it and two rockets should finish them.

I had to have a smile to myself when you said 'loads of enemies'. Because my all time favourite Doom level is Demonic Hordes (Alien Vendetta's Map 25) which has considerably more enemies than this level 1,288 more to be precise! That empty secret is a bit puzzling. It seems a bit of a finger to UV Maxers and 100% ers to force them to go into a completely empty room. That is my one (small) criticism of this map

killing arch viles is frustrating as hell... I hit the sucker with a BFG shot, and son of a bitch is still standing every time... or he runs behind the others and makes me screw up my shot. Had to redo it least 20+ times to make it stick but still ended up using 2 shots instead of 1.

A question i have is how does the blood Hurt You exactly. In real Life blood doesn't Hurt You but sometimes in Doom it does. This goes the same for quake water and normal water

Another way to get through the room at 3:06 is to run across to the other side, push the rock lift, back up for a second (to evade shots) and run through to the cavern behind the door. Clear that area out and come back to the lift. Enemies will gather on the lift. Push it and back up while firing the plasma gun to kill whatever is on it. The lift will go up and gather more enemies. Repeat the process until all of the enemies on that ledge are dead. There are several cell reloads in the cavern. Edit: oops, I just saw that someone else made the same suggestion.

In the final part of the map, I run past the 2 pain elementals go up to the final area and immediately press the switch to lower the stairs to the exit and you’re done. You can skip all the fighting usually. Although you need to hide from the arch vile, until the stairs lower.

7:14 In this section, I like to pick off the pain elementals one by one. Hug one of the torches and aggravate one of the pain elementals using rocket splash damage. Then, when the elemental is in sight, direct hit it with a rocket. I find this method to conserve lots of ammo.

The mega-sphere makes it not really important which way you enter the room with the blue key, so I don't think it's unwise to handle it differently. I think you're right it's probably easier to go there from the start area and otherwise it's a bit chaotic, but seems easy enough with all the weapons at our disposal, even if you take more damage. You should still survive just fine. And then take the mega-sphere and then it won't matter how much damage you took.
